The Iowa Rush U13 Girls Rush, U14 Boys Rush and U15 Girls Rush traveled to Chicago this past weekend to compete in Sockers FC Nike Classic Cup. All three teams and their coaches enjoyed the event in Chicago and the opportunity to play opponents they do not normally compete against in Iowa tournaments.
The U13 Girls Rush team competed against three solid opponents, including Rush affiliate Missouri Rush, but were unable to earn enough points through round robin play to advance into the semi-finals. U14 Boys Rush went 3-0 in group play and defeated the Sockers FC Chicago Black 2-0 in the final, earning 1st place in their division. Finally, the U15 Girls Rush won all three of their round robin games and advanced to play Brookfield Red for the second time on the weekend, and were victorious by a score of 2-1 in the final match.
Executive Director, Paul Fabry, and Director of Select Boys, Nuno Ferreira, both attended the event with their respective teams and were complimentary of the all three teams' performances over the weekend. Fabry stated, "The types of players and teams playing soccer only a short four to five hours away in Chicago, give our teams an opportunity to compete against different, but athletic playing styles. The Chicagoland area has an extremely large pool of talent, and with this talent, attracts clubs from all over the region. It was wonderful to see our teams battling and winning against these quality clubs".
Congratulations again to the U14 Boys Rush and U15 Girls Rush on their 1st place finishes.
