Angeli Named WPS Player of the Month (08.05.10) Colorado Rush super-star alum Jordan Angeli has been named the WPS Player of the Month after scoring four goals and adding and assist in the month of July while leading the Boston Breakers to a 5-1 record. The award marks the first time that a Rookie has won the Player of the Month Award.
Jordan recently took some time to talk about her first year so far with the Breakers: JA: “It has been challenging. There is definitely a big adjustment going from college to playing with some of the best players in the world. I’m trying to take every day as a learning experience and improve every day. But it has been really fun! I feel like I have been constantly evolving as a player.”
Rush: What has been the biggest challenge moving from college soccer to the professional ranks? JA: “The level of play, the speed of play is just quicker. You are under pressure as soon as you get the ball. That has been an adjustment to make. Also, just dealing with being a professional. You have all this time on your hands (that you didn’t with school), so I have been figuring out how to prepare myself, both mentally and physically, to play every day.”
Rush:You have been on a tremendous goal-scoring streak of late. How does it feel to be such a big part of your teams’ success? JA: “It feels awesome! I just have been in the right place at the right time. I’ve always just tried to work hard and know that good things will come from hard work. My teammates have been giving me good balls that are easy to put away. It’s been fun but what matters most is that we have been winning. If I am scoring and we aren’t getting results it’s a different matter. The past month and a half the team has been playing really well and that is very exciting.”
Rush:You’ve scored 5 goals on the season so far. Which one has been your favorite? JA: “I would have to say… I had a volley goal from 25 yards out. I don’t really remember it happening, I was so in the moment but once I went back and watched it I was like ‘Wow that’s pretty good!” Editors note: Click here to see Jordan's goal. (search 7/12-Boston Comes From Behind to defeat Atlanta- 1:11 into highlights)
Rush: There are a few weeks left in the WPS season, what is it going to take to make the playoffs and make a run at the title? JA: “Well as of now we are sitting in a good spot. We are in third place and have the chance to take over second if we win this weekend. Overall we are in a great spot. We just need to build on this momentum and keep improving everyday. We are really trying to take things one day at a time. Our goal at the moment is to earn a first round bye.”

Nigeria Rush Draws 1000 Players for Tryout (08.04.10) (Some of the hundreds of players who came to try out for the Nigeria Rush) The following is a message from Nigeria Rush VP Bature S. Likoro: I was at the Tryout closing ceremony of the Rush Nigeria Kano centre today - 8/1/2010 I must confess that never in my wildest imagination did expect to see what i met on ground. It is unbelieveable and unfathomable! The enthusiasm, resiliance of kids to get enrolled into the rush group was beyond my comprehension. The coaches, the volunteers and the 5 Rush team in Kano have done an excellent arrangement. In attendance was the State secretary of Ysfon - Youth Sport Federation of Nigeria, and the coaches of 2 other popular teams in kano. Beyond what you can see in the picture, what intrigued me the most was a small kid who came crying that HE CAME ALL THE WAY FROM CAMEROON for this trial. He wanted to know if he was succesful because his mother had used all she had to give him to come for this trial. Parents came with their children begging for them to be considered.
I tried to find out why Rush selection was different from the previous selection? The answer is TRANSPERENCY! also the absence of retired football big names attributed to the large turn-out. Most retired big names had come and taken money without any progam on ground. The Rush team in Kano bought and printed T shirts and shorts for all officials and others. The Police provided good security. The Nurse was on hand to take care of the injured and those in need of medical attention. The Press did and is doing a great job of advertising Rush Nigeria. Rush Nigeria has become a known name amongst the children and youth in Kano.
Keep up the great work Nigeria Rush!
Rush Festival Converges on Kansas (07.29.10) Hundreds of U12 boys and girls from around Rush Nation have converged on Olathe, Kansas for the third annual U12 Rush Festival. The Festival (being held in Kansas for the second straight year) brings some of the nations best young players together for 5 days of games, training sessions, classroom education, social events and more. Day 1 began with a rousing opening ceremony spotlighting some of the best players to come out of the Rush (Conor Casey, Danielle Foxhoven, etc.). Olathe Mayor Michael Copeland even came to speak to the kids, and welcome them to Kansas. After a greeting by Rush Soccer Technical Director Andrew Kummer, a live tournament draw was conducted by Dave Dengerink of the Virginia Rush. The second day saw the first day of games for both the boys and girls. The hot, humid weather that Kansas is known for was in full effect but the 12’s played through the heat and were able to play some quality soccer.
Later in the day, Kei Kamara of the Kansas City Wizards (who scored the game winning goal against Manchester United in their weekend matchup) came to the fields to speak with the group and share some life stories. “The best thing about being a pro,” Kei said to the kids, “is the free breakfast that the club provides. I like Honey Nut Cheerios!”

After their 3-2 victory over Boo IF, the Colorado Rush are champions of the GU15 age group at the Gothia Cup. Rush's Brittney Stark started the scoring off early in the first half, when she pounced on a loose ball in the box, and buried it in the back of the net. Boo answered back with a goal of their own a few minutes later. A nifty combination at the top of the box freed up a Boo striker who slotted her shot under a diving Sabrina Macias to level the score at 1's. Brittney Stark gave Rush the lead again when she followed up Gabbi Miranda's blast from 25 yards out. Stark completed her hat trick just before half. Kerri Marquadt got on the end of a Ashely Mages' cross and hit the cross bar with her shot. Stark was there to clean up the rebound as she headed it in from close range.
The second half saw a few good chances from both sides. Boo hit the cross bar from a long range shot midway through the second half. In the final minute, Boo converted a pk on a questionable foul in the box. Rush killed off the final minute of the game and came away with a 3-2 victory sending the players and fans into a frenzy!
Brittney Stark was selected MVP of the match after scoring three goals.
"Oh When the Rush," could be heard throughout the city, as the girls were taken away from the stadium on a convertible bus and driven all around town.
Coach Wes Hart had this to say after the game, "The atmosphere was awesome. Great stadium. Live TV. Replays on jumbo tron. It was cool! After the game, they paraded us around the city in a convertible bus and we did all the Rush chants throughout the city. All the people on the streets would cheer for us as we went by. Random people would come up and ask for photos of the girls. They were treated like pros!" Picture of the game, the celebration, and players' comment will be available soon.
Rush Girls Headed to Gothia Cup Final (07.23.10) After 9 games, 500 minutes, 47 goals for, and 0 against, the Rush girls are headed to the Finals of the Gothia Cup! After a dramatic last second goal to launch them into the Semi Finals, the Rush defeated Ifo Bromolla IF to secure their place in Saturday's Final. Betsy Brandon got Rush on the board when she calmly slotted a left footed shot past the Bromolla gk. Early in the second half, Rush's Kayla Latham finished a Jordan Di Biasi cross from close range, to make it 2-0. It was Latham's first goal of the tournament. She was the last Rush player to score a goal (all 16 players have now scored) and it could not have come at a better time. Rush's third goal was acutally put in by a Bromolla defender, after a hard run through the box by Brittney Stark. Ashely Mages finished the scoring off, when she converted a Betsy Brandon cross of of a short corner. Rush's defense, anchored by captain Julia Thurston, was stingy once again, as they allowed very few chances on goal.
Rush will face Boo FF (Sweden) in the Final, which will kick off at 11 am (3 am MST). Rush Girls Run Ends with Third Place Finish at Nationals (07.23.10) A great summer run came crashing to an end today as the Rush 16’s lost 3-1 to NSA Premier Fury (IL). For the third straight day the Rush Girls battled in the heat but needing a win to qualify for the national championship match, the Girls fell short. Conceding a goal less than a minute from the game kicking off was not in the plans. A second goal for the Illinois side 10 minutes later made it 2-0. Lindsey Horan scored a PK late in half one to make the game 2-1, but that represented the last of the Rush attacks. A late NSA goal put the game out of reach. Congratulations to the Rush Girls on a great summer of soccer.
Michigan Standout Kopmeyer, Leads Arizona Rush at the USASA U-23 Championship in Overland, Kansas (07.23.10) (Arizona RUsh WPSL squad before a match with the USA U23 Women) Arizona Rush will be the 2nd Rush team to represent the Rush organization in Overland, Kansas this week (with CO Rush 16's). Arizona Rush U-23 women's team will start its pursuit of a USASA (United States Amateur Soccer Association) National Title on 2pm Friday vs Dallas Premier. This team is made up of some of top players from all over the country. Of the 15 players that have traveled to Kansas, over 75% have played at the regional team level. The team is lead by Michigan standout and former US U-17& U-18 goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer who this season had the lowest GAA (goal against average) in the WPSL (women's premier soccer league). Kopmeyer allowed only 1 goal in 8 regular season games and started for the Arizona Rush WPSL vs the US U-23 team in June. Some of the other standouts on this team are: Shawna Gordon - Long Beach State & former US U-17 & U18 player, Whitney Berry - Kansas, Myriah Stockman - Pepperdine, Anisa Guajardo - Pepperdine & Mexico U-20 pool, Alex Balcer - Long Beach State & former U-16 player, Claire Stachel - Michigan & former US U-17 & U-18 player, Mary Kate Mclaughlin - Iowa State and Morgan Showalter - University of Iowa. "The goal for this team is to get to the final game and give ourselves a chance at the title". This team will perform well every time we take the field and represent the Rush organization well. Special mention must be made to Iowa Rush coaches Eric Golz and Corbin stone for assisting in the identification of players. With the quality teams Arizona and Iowa Rush have put on the field in the WPSL, and Colorado in the W-league, the day is near when the Rush will have a team in the WPS (Women's Professional Soccer). "The farm teams are set in place."
The question now, is Location!!!
Rush Girls Continue to Win at Gothia Cup (07.22.10) (Gothia Cup squad hanging out at the hotel in Sweden) After two more wins today, the Rush Girls advance to the Round of 16 at the Gothia Cup. In their first game today, Rush defeated Nattraby GoIF. After a slow start and a scoreless first half, Gabbi Mirnanda got Rush on the scoreboard. Her free kick from 30 yards out, found the back of the net. Just before the end of the game, Rush added a second goal when Whitney Szeliga's corner kick was headed in by Jordan Di Biasi.
In game two, Rush completely dominated from the opening whistle. Shannon Patterson opened the scoring five minutes into the game, and the goals kept coming from there. Seven different Rush players scored. Natalie Ambrose and Lindsey Hendon scored their first goals of the tournament. Gabbi Miranda, Brittney Stark, Hadley Plummer, and Kerri Marquardt also added goals.

Rush Girls Lose on Day Two of Nationals 1-0 to Solar (TX) (07.22.10) (Rush First 11 vs. Solar) The 8am game today was a difficult match and a very competitive one. The goal did not come until the last quarter of the game and the slightest of breakdowns in the Rush defense led to the game winner. Some great saves were made by Hannah Clark to preserve the 1-0 deficit and keep the Rush in the game. A couple good chances were created by Rush but the back of the net could not be found. The Rush Girls play NSA Premier Fury (IL) tomorrow at noon. This will be a must win game. With a win, the Rush Girls stand a very good chance of making it to the national championship match where they would likely face this same Solar team from today.
CO Rush 16’s Defeat McLean MPS Strikers (VA) 2-1 at USYS Nationals (07.21.10) (Rush first 11 vs. Strikers) The heat and humidity have been the main story so far, but now there is a new headline. Goals by Lindsey Horan and Maddie Kiebel gave the Rush Girls their first victory at the USYS National Championships. The Rush Girls got off to a great start and had a couple glorious chances early on off an attacking corner. The opportunities could not be converted, but early in half two, Horan got on the end of an Antonia Land cross, took a touch to the side and half volleyed from 15 yards for a 1-0 lead. After giving up an equalizer, it was a free kick curled in by Mary Schwappach that found Kiebel in front of goal and a cool finish with the outside of the foot resulted. Rush saw the game out to finish the 2-1 victors. The Girls play Solar (Dallas, TX) tomorrow at 8am. Solar also won today 3-1 over Minnesota Thunder Academy.

Georgia Rush U-15 Nike Boys pose with Stensballe IK of Denmark (07.19.10) Georgia Rush hosted the Stensballe IK U-15 soccer team from Horsens, Denmark from June 30 to July 5. Several families opened their homes and hosted the Danish boys along with some of the chaperones. GA Rush Technical Director, Ron Apollon conducted a technical session for both teams on Thursday night that the boys enjoyed very much despite the Georgia heat. The two teams then played a very entertaining friendly match the next day that was followed by dinner and a "meet and greet the team" at the Olde Blind Dog. The highlight of this venture was a mini tournament played on July 2 at the GA Rush facility, between the Danish Stensballe IK team, the GA Rush U15 Nike Boys team, the Roswell Santos U15 team, and the GA Mountain Red Bulls. Each team played three 30 minute games in a round robin format. The tournament was followed by a “cookout” that the boys enjoyed as the games. Verner Sorensen, the Danish coach stated: "We are excited to link up with Georgia Rush and learn more about the American style of soccer which has brought the US much success in the international matches. We are also looking forward to keeping in touch with our new friends and hoping to reciprocate all of the southern hospitality."

Joe Davidson is a 14-year-old soccer player for the Alaska Rush. Joe is also an experienced filmmaker. Upon hearing about the distribution of jerseys to countries all over the world, Joe thought a documentary on the project would be a neat idea.
“This is such a unique thing that Rush is doing. My goal is to follow a set of jerseys from Alaska Rush to Colorado, and then over to Togo in Africa. Once in Togo, the jerseys from Alaska will be distributed to kids who have never worn a jersey before,” commented Joe. “I will film the journey of these R.E.A.C.H. jerseys.”
Joe approached Rush Soccer President Tim Schulz with his film idea. “I had a chance to view some work done by Joe Davidson. I assumed he was a seasoned pro and I come to find out he is 14 years old! How fitting for one of our own Rush players to lead in this project.”
Joe is already a seasoned veteran when it comes to making films in foreign countries. For one of his early films, and the one that caught the eye of Tim Schulz, Joe went to Kashmir, an area between Pakistan, India and China, that has been a political and religious war zone for over 50 years. Joe’s film was beautifully shot with only natural sound to tell the story of the war-torn country, in addition to some written narration to help paint a picture for the viewer.
Joe will travel to Togo, following the box of jerseys from Alaska Rush, and meet with Togo Rush President Ramo Badohoun. Once in Togo, Joe will film Togo Rush players on the field as well as the reaction to the distribution of the ‘new’ jerseys. Joe will be in Togo from July 11-17 at which point he will fly back to America just in time for a tournament with his Alaska Rush team.
Joe’s documentary is already drawing attention from media networks in Colorado and Alaska as well as The Africa Channel, a cable network focusing on African happenings.
Maryland Rush Girls Win US Club Regionals - National Finals in Late July (07.07.10)
The Maryland Rush Nike 93 Girls team where crowned as the US Club Regional Champions in Winston Salem, NC over the week of June 26-29,2010. The 93 girls would start out the weekend with a tie against a very good Northern Steel team from Pa. After going down 1-0 in the 2nd half off a defensive mistake, Alex Weller would score the game tying goal with under a minute left in the game. This would be the jump start that the Maryland Rush team would need to push them through the weekend.
The next day the 93 Nike team would face the host club TCYSA Lady Twins. They wasted no time getting the scoring started. Katrina Savoy would score the first of her 2 goals which ended up being the game winner in a 5-0 rout. This win would put the 93 Nike team in 2nd place for group play placing them in the semi-finals against the Futbolfit 93’s from NC. This game would be a very physical match from start to finish and would see 2 red cards during the play (one by each team). The Nike 93 Girls would end up winning 3-1 and advancing to the finals where they would meet the Northern Steel team again who also won their semi final match.
In the final game the 93 Girls would go down again 1-0 early in the 2nd half after dominating play throughout. However, it would not take long for the Rush girls to even up the match with a goal coming off the foot of Caitlyn Byrnes. Byrnes who normally plays center back was moved into the forward position and made her presents known. After that the 93 Girls would storm the goal looking for the go ahead goal before the end of regulation. After missing a number of chances the game would end regulation the same way the 1st game ended. However, this game had to have a winner. In the 2nd minute of the first overtime Katrina Savoy would score the go ahead goal. The Maryland Rush team would keep pushing for the insurance goal instead of sitting back and trying to keep the lead. At the start of the 2nd overtime Jordan Deloach would beat her player on the left flank and dribble wide open into the box where she was taken down by the Steel Defender. Thinking this would give the team the insurance goal they were looking for with just minutes until the final whistle and the championship in hand. The Rush Girls would miss the PK. In the end they would not need the 3rd goal as they game ended 2-1 with the Nike 93 team as Champions. The Maryland Rush Nike 93 team will head to Nationals in Va. Beach July 24-27, 2010.
Oregon Rush Girls in the News - Gothia Cup (Sweden) (07.06.10) (Shannon Patterson, Natalie Ambrose and Hadlie Plummer of Oregon Rush, picture courtesy of The Bend Bulletin)
As the U14 Colorado Rush Nike girls finish up preparation for the Gothia Cup in Sweden later in July, the three guest players on the roster from Oregon Rush are drawing plenty of attention at home in Bend, Oregon. Shannon Patterson, Hadlie Plummer and Natalie Ambrose were part of the U14 Rush team that won the prestigious Manchester United Cup in Portland in late May. Now the girls will play in the Gothia Cup in Sweden, more or less the World Championship for the U14 age group. Katie Brauns of The Bend Bulletin wrote a great article on Shannon, Natalie and Hadlie and their experience winning the Manchester United Cup and preparing for the Gothia Cup. In Region III, Texas Rush won at both the U15 and U17 age group on the boys side. The 15 Nike boys beat Arkansas Rush in the final 1-0 while the 17 Nike Boys beat Coral Estates (FL) 1-0. Although the U15 Arkansas boys lost in the regional final to Texas Rush, the U16 Nike Girls from Arkansas would not be denied as they knocked off Amarillo Lightning (N-TX) 1-0.
Arkansas Rush Technical Director Matt Mittelstaedt will provide updates from Tennessee beginning on July 8th. Good luck Rush teams!
U16 Girls Crowned Far West Region Champions (06.28.10) The U16 Colorado Rush girls have been crowned as champions of the Far West Region after a come from behind 2-1 win over Legends FC of Cal South on Sunday in Albuquerque.
A slow start found the Rush girls trailing 1-0 at halftime. After three straight years of making it to the Far West Regionals and never advancing past the quarterfinal stage, the Rush girls were not about to let this opportunity slip through their fingers. Second half substitute Danielle Tavel helped spark the Rush and within a few minutes, Rush drew a free kick 20 yards from goal. U17 National Team member Lindsey Horan stepped up to take the kick. Cristiano Ronaldo would have been proud of the effort as Lindsey smashed the ball over the wall and just under the crossbar for the equalizer.
“I was really in the zone and wanted to take the shot,” Lindsey said after the game. “They didn’t set up the wall very well and I just hit it hard at the keeper and it went over her head.”
15 minutes later, Mary Schwappach tracked down a through ball behind the Legends defense and struck a well placed shot past a diving Legends keeper for a 2-1 lead.
“Oh my gosh it was the best feeling. I was like ‘finally I get to score instead of just Lindsey,” Mary said jokingly after the game.
Rush possessed the ball well in the final 20 minutes and played solid defense when called upon to kill off the game.
The win marks the 3rd consecutive year that a Rush team has won Region IV. During that stretch, 5 separate titles have been captured (2008-U18 Girls, U19 Boys, 2009-U19 Girls, U19 Boys, 2010-U16 Girls).
The 16’s will advance to the US Youth Soccer National Championship in Overland Park, Kansas July 21-25. The girls will have the opportunity to win the 15th National Championship for the Colorado Rush, the most by any club in the country.
Region II-Day 3 (06.28.10) Going into the last day of preliminary play, Iowa Rush U16 and U18 girls both had a chance to advance with wins. The 16's entered with a 1-0-1 record, preparing to face a very athletic, determined Minnesota Thunder group. The quick turn-around in the third game (4 pm start time yesterday with an 8 am start time today) showed early and often in the U16 game as Rush started sluggish and failed to begin play with the same level of energy and character they displayed the day before. However, at the break the game still remained tight at 1-0 with Rush switching to a 3-4-3,t rying to open up the game and get in behind MTA's defense. Unfortunately, big gaps stretched the team and they began to chase the game too often, giving up more goals on the counter when throwing numbers into the attack.
The U18's were also drained emotionally and physically after working hard to obtain two positive results. Giving up an early goal as well, they had to dig themselves out of hole that just became too deep. Their opponent, the Internationals out of Ohio, had special performances by a Northwestern-bound player who posed lots of challenges for the team defensively. Despite this, Rush found a way to break through on occasion. It was just too little too late with the ball bouncing their way only once. The team lost 3-1.
On a positive note, the U14 group scored its first goal and displayed potential and ability. The team played in one of the toughest brackets against powehouse girls' clubs, such as Carmel, Toro, and St. Louis Soccer Club. Rush was in every game, but failed to capitlalize on their chances, losing 1-0, 1-0, and 2-1. Next year, the players will be in a better position to get more results. Our goal is to send a team through into the next round and be the first Iowa club to win a Regional Championship. We are getting closer, and are eager to begin preparations for next season. Go Rush! Region II-Day 2 (06.27.10) U14 girls lost a tough one 1-0 against an outstanding Toro SC team out of Omaha. The game was fenetic, fast-paced and competitive. We countered well, but failed to capitalize on 6 corners late in the game and a 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper. The U14 age bracket is not going to be getting any easier as the team we play tomorrow defeated Carmel United, the team we lost to yesterday, by several goals.
The U16's drew 0-0 with Toro despite a great effort late in the second half on a breakaway that the goalkeeper made a terrific save on to keep the game level. We needed a tie to stay alive. It was not a pretty game of soccer, but we played disciplined, organized counter-attacking game. The wind was a significant factor affecting how the game was played. The team put on an inspired, gritty performance to grind out a result. If the team wins tomorrow against Minnesota Thunder, they advance. A loss or draw gets MTA through.
The U18 team got another win against a dangerous Ft. Wayne Fever team, triumphing 2-1 off goals by Claire Clark and Courtney Carlson. The game was tied 0-0 at halftime. At the break, the team modifed its efforts, formation, and style playing more direct, attacking the backline with penetrating runs and passes that left Ft. Wayne on the defensive. Soon thereafter, Claire Clark hit a cracking shot over the keeper from a tough angle near the edge of the box out wide. Later, Claire laid off a longer ball to Carlson who smacked it into the goal to preserve the win. In the last minute of play Ft. Wayne obtained a PK. The 18's need only a draw to advance!!
U14 0-1 Toro SC U16 0-0 Minnesota Thunder U18 2-1 Ft. Wayne Fever
Region II Championships Kick Off in Ohio (06.26.10) (The U16 Iowa Rush Girls started off Region II with a 4-0 win) The Region II Championships are underway in Beavercreek, Ohio and the Iowa Rush are the lone representatives from Rush Soccer with three teams. The U16 and U18 girls from Iowa Rush started the weekend on a positive note as both teams won their opening round games. Iowa Rush Technical Director Corbin Stone provides game recaps below.
The U16 girls announced their presence in Ohio with a 4-0 beat down of the Kentucky State Champion CKSC Lightning. "Madison Densmore got the scoring started with a fantastic header off a cross, while Alison Smith scored two goals off the bench and Ali Ward finished off the game from inside the box. The 16's have to face two of the top teams in the Midwest in Minnesota Thunder and Toro out of Omaha. They are looking forward to following up a good first outing." The 16’s sit atop their group after day 1 and will look for more success on Sunday when they take on Toro Bravo out of Nebraska.
The U18 girls took down Dynamo 92 out of Indiana. "Despite wasting several chances, including a few breakaways, they still found a way to win 2-1 off two set pieces by Ohio State signee Megan Fuller. Up next for the U18 team are Ft. Wayne Fever (Indiana) and the Internationals out of Ohio."
The U14 girls fell 1-0 to Carmel United out of Indiana. "The U14 girls played tight match against a very special Carmel United team, playing a disciplined, organized game. Looking to counter without losing their defensive shape, the U14 girls had a few chances to draw, but failed to equalize. Miranda Hunzeker was outstanding in goal with many saves to keep the game tight."
2 Rush Teams Set to Play for Regional Championship (06.26.10) (The U16 Colorado girls and U19 New Mexico Boys will play for the Region IV title on Sunday) After the dust had settled from the first 5 days of games at the Far West Regionals in Albuquerque, two Rush teams remained standing. The U19 Boys from New Mexico overcame a second half send off to beat Sereno 3-1. They will take on WSM Internationals from Oregon on Sunday. Also advancing to the finals are the U16 girls from Colorado whose strong defense held San Diego Surf scoreless as the Rush Girls won 1-0. The 16's will face Legends FC out of Cal South in the final.
In other semi-final action, the U19 Colorado Boys overcame 2-0 and 3-2 deficits to force their game, with defending regional champion WSM Internationals into, extra time. Despite a hard fought effort and great week overall for the boys, it was not enough as Internationals who would go on to win 5-3. The U16 New Mexico boys also dropped their game on the day 1-0 to Sereno.
Good luck to the 19 boys and 16 girls tomorrow!

Colorado's Lindsey Horan and Annie Kunz Named Parade All-Americans (06.17.10) (Lindsey Horan was recently named as a 2010 Parade All-American)
Lindsey Horan and Annie Kunz are well known names in girl’s soccer in Colorado. Both names are now known across the country as Lindsey and Annie were recently named to the 2010 Parade Magazine All-American Team. The Parade All-American list is a long-standing institution known for recognizing some of the nations top talent in youth sports. Lindsey and Annie were both named to the list as two of the nations top forwards.
Lindsey made the list, which largely looks at success with high school teams, despite not playing high school soccer for Golden High School. Instead, Lindsey played with a Rush boy’s team in the spring. It has been a terrific year for Lindsey who led her U16 Rush Nike team to yet another Colorado State Cup Championship, led the U17 National Team in goals at the 2010 CONCACAF Regional Championships, was called into the U18 National Camp despite only being 15 at the time (has since turned 16) and made the roster for the Colorado Rush W-League team. Upon making the Parade All-America team, The Denver Post did a story on Lindsey that landed on the front page of the sports section! Click here to read the Post article.
Annie was named the State Cup MVP after helping the U17 Nike girls to their second straight Colorado State Cup Championship. Annie also led the Wheat Ridge Farmers to their second straight 4A State Championship (Hat Trick in State Final) while also running track for Wheat Ridge where she was the State's top performer in the 100 meter Hurdles, Triple Jump and High Jump. Annie was also invited to U17 National camp earlier in 2010.
"Annie has had an amazing year," said Andrew Kummer, Annie's Coach. " She has a nose for the goal and can simply put the ball in the back of the net. While she has proven to be a legitimate goal scorer, her experience with the U17 National Team helped her realize where her game needs to go. Annie is truly deserving of this award and I look forward to many more good things to come." Congratulations Annie and Lindsey on this tremendous accomplishment! Rush Soccer Adds Rush Africa Technical Consultant (06.16.10) With major expansion occurring with Rush clubs in Africa, Rush Soccer is excited to announce Koffi Ramo Badohoun as the Technical Consultant for Rush Africa.
“Ramo has a wealth of knowledge on how the U.S. operates its soccer affairs being a resident here for over 10 years,” said Rush Soccer President and CEO Tim Schulz. “He will do a great job for the Rush in this now role. He is excellent at taking what he knows about the African culture and applying it to the U.S. way of doing things and vice versa. He is a good addition.”
Ramo’s soccer experience is extensive. Born in Togo, Ramo spent much of his formative years growing up in France where he was part of the prestigious Lille Olympic Academy alongside current international star Frank Ribery. Ramo was called in to the 2006 Togo National team for the 2006 World Cup but fell just short of making the squad.
Ramo’s duties as the Technical Consultant will include helping Rush Africa grow to reach the potential that the African continent provides Rush Soccer. Establishing relationships with the African partners and the leaders of those clubs will be paramount. But Ramo’s primary role will be to serve as a go between for Rush Soccer and the clubs in Africa. The cultural differences can be quite different and Ramo will act to bridge the gap.
“I think that there are some elements that are essentials in building relationship in business, familial or friendly environments. To successfully conduct any endeavor that involves cross culture differences, we definitely need someone that can grasp at least the fundamentals of the cultural differences in addition to the common practice of soccer development between these various cultures,” commented Ramo on his new role. “I believe I have all the qualities required of this position.
“Ramo brings to us knowledge of both the American and African cultures which is critical to the overall success of Rush Soccer in Africa,” said Rush Soccer Technical Director Andrew Kummer. “His addition will help us in our effort to integrate Rush soccer in Africa and to provide more opportunities for African players.”

Omar Sise Appointed as Technical Director: Africa Rush (06.01.10) Updated 06.04.10 (Rush Africa Technical Director Omar Sise (in Orange) with coaches in Gambia)2010 has seen an explosion of Rush clubs in Africa. Gambia, Ghana, Senegal, and Cameroon have all joined the Rush family and other countries are sure to take notice. With this massive expansion, Rush Soccer needs a full time leader to take Africa Rush to the next step. In order to do this, Rush needs an individual with a passion for the Rush Way and a deep knowledge not only of many African countries, but also an individual with good managerial skills and the ability to communicate well with American based Rush clubs.
With those criteria in place, Rush Soccer is very excited to announce Omar Sise as the first ever Technical Director for Africa Rush. Omar first joined the Rush while he was coaching with the Georgia Rush. He is a Gambian by birth and played for the countries national team prior to his coaching career.
Omar has been working hard to get Gambia Rush (of whom he is the President) up and running while also building the foundation for player exchange. Most notably, Omar was key in arraigning the player exchange of 4 Gambian Youth National team players to the Colorado Rush. The four boys have helped lead the Colorado Rush Development Academy team to the USSDA playoffs and the boys currently sit in first place in the Frontier Division.
“The signing of Omar Sise is a huge step for us. Omar is well respected and has a good feel for the Rush,” said Tim Schulz, President & C.E.O of Rush Soccer.
In order to get African countries to prosper from their relationship, Omar sees one major concern saying, “When something comes from outside the continent, like Rush Soccer, there can be some concerns with the African locals. I have to help them understand what Rush can do for them.“
In addition to overseeing the growth of Rush Soccer in Africa, Omar will also oversee Academy programs in Gambia and Senegal. These academies are available to any Africans, though most will be from Gambia or Senegal. The two clubs are relatively close (about a 5 hour drive) and both hope and plan for a close working relationship.
“We might have the same skill set as our competitors on the field for the time being, but what will set us apart will be our work off the field,” commented Omar on the current state of African Rush clubs.

Rush Soccer Arrives in the Far East with Thailand Rush (05.27.10)
Expansion in 2010 has largely been focused on the African continent. However, Rush Soccer is very excited to announce our very first partner in Asia: Thailand Rush!
Based in Chiang Mai, in northwest Thailand, the club will start small with two teams (between 40-50 players) in year one. By next season, Thailand Rush plan to have teams competing at the U13, U15 and U18 levels on the boy’s side. For the time being, Thailand Rush does not have enough girls to form a side. However, girl’s teams are planned for the near future. The club will be lead by President Sonny Thweatt and Technical Director Chris Cole along with other coaches and volunteers.
“Our relationship with Chris Cole goes way back’” said Rush Soccer President and CEO Tim Schulz. “His character is first class. He could not be a better leader to set an example for the youth in Thailand, so obviously we are glad to have these guys on board. They will make the Rush brand better.”
“We think that Rush soccer can benefit Thailand by helping to improve the overall quality of soccer in Chiang Mai and in Thailand,” commented Cole on the new partnership. “As Rush helps to improve the game, through Thailand Rush, we intend to develop quality soccer players who are young men of character and are role models in the community. This is very important in this country, to have quality male role models.”
“The most intriguing aspect of Rush soccer for the people of Thailand is really to see quality in both play and character. We want to be an example in Thailand. Not of how we are better, but by displaying the humility of what it looks like to have quality players who also have integrity and play for something more than just their own glory.”
“Rush Soccer is very excited to have a partner in Asia. We feel that they are spot on with the Rush Way. Developing quality players and quality people,” said Rush Soccer Technical Director Andrew Kummer. He continued, “Although Thailand Rush is very small compared to many of our partners in the United States, we feel they can offer a great deal to the Rush and we intend to offer a great deal in return. Welcome aboard Thailand Rush!”

Georgia Rush Join Forces With Gambia Rush (05.18.10) (Georgia Rush President Fahmi El Shami (left) and Technical Director Ron Apollon (right) join Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed in welcoming 3 young players from Gambia Rush)
Soccer is not only the national pastime and the most important sport in the West African nation of The Gambia, but it is also an all consuming passion for the country’s citizens. So it may surprise some to learn that when top Gambian youth players want to turn their dream of playing on their National Team into reality, they come to Atlanta and more specifically to Georgia Rush to be transformed into world class international soccer players.
Ousman Ceesay, Bunja Ceesay, and Kekuta Manneh are three very talented players who have come to the Atlanta area to take part in Rush Soccer’s unique program which offers each of it’s more than 35,000 youth players the opportunity to train with Rush teams in other states and nations.
Georgia Rush, which is located in Milton, offers a full range of recreational and elite competitive soccer teams and training for youth players through its traditional and indoor soccer facilities.
In light of the boys’ talent and the high quality training offered at Georgia Rush, no one should be surprised if these three players return to Atlanta as members of the Gambian National team for either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.

Oregon Rush U16 Girls Capture State Cup For 3rd Time (05.10.10) On May 8, the Oregon Rush 93 Girls Nike won their 3rd State Cup Championship with a 2-1 OT victory over Westside Metros in the finals of the Oregon Youth Soccer State Cup. Down 1-0 to an early goal, the 93 Girls never gave up, coming agonizingly close on many occasions against a stout WSM defense. They kept pushing, though, and in the second minute of 2nd half injury time Allie Cummins lobbed an innocuous ball into the WSM box that looked headed for the goalkeeper. Madison Shore made a 40 yd sprint to chase it down, and as the WSM defender tried to shield her away from the ball, she fouled her for a penalty kick. Cummins coolly stepped up and equalized from the mark, and the game headed into extra time. In OT, Rush kept pressing for the winner, and were finally rewarded with five minutes remaining when Maryn Beutler received a great pass from Gabby Vazquez and beat the keeper for the winner. The girls advance to the Far West Regional Championships in New Mexico June 20-28. At Far West Regionals in 2009, the girls advanced out of group play with 3 wins before losing in the quarterfinal round 1-0.
Great games were also played by the 91 Nike Boys and 91 Nike Girls, who lost heartbreaking 1 goal decisions. The 91 Girls fell behind in the 6th minute to 6 time defending champion THUSC Neon and despite putting up a great fight, could never find the equalizer and fell 1-0. The 91 Boys faced ESUFC Liverpool for the third straight year in the finals, having split the last 2 games. They took a 2nd half lead on a penalty kick into the final 5 minutes, before ESUFC was awarded a penalty of their own. In OT, the boys fought hard but ended up conceding a goal with 5 minutes remaining and lost 2-1. Both teams played great and represented Oregon Rush well.

Auxerre Fall Late to Lyon, Champions League Still In Play (05.06.10) A late second half goal by Lyon’s Miralem Pjanic was enough to give Lyon a 2-1 victory over visiting AJ Auxerre. Visiting AJA created several chances early including a hit post. AJA managed to break through and opened the scoring 15 minutes into the game when leading scorer Ireneusz Jelen stepped in front of a Lyon pass and finished his chance. Lyon would equalize just before halftime when AJA was called for a foul in the box and Lyon’s Lisandro Lopez put away his shot from the PK Spot. Lyon kept the pressure on in the second half and Auxerre’s league leading defense eventually cracked with Pjanic’s winner. The loss drops AJA into a second place tie with Lille, who holds the tiebreaker with more wins on the season. With two games remaining, Lille must still face Ligue 1 champions Marseille. A top two finish gives AJA an automatic Champions League birth while a third place finish would put AJA into Champions League qualifying rounds. If they drop to fourth, they would qualify for the Europa League. AJA will face Lens on Saturday.
New Mexico Rush Take Club Promotions to A Whole New Level (05.06.10) The next time you find your self on the freeway outside of Paseo Del Notre in New Mexico, keep an eye out for the billboard now owned by New Mexico Rush! Colorado Rush Win Battle With Texas Rush (05.04.10) It was an all Rush affair on Saturday as the Colorado Rush Academy Teams hosted their counterparts from Texas Rush. The game between the 93's started on a sour note for the Texas boys as an own goal opened the scoring less than 5 minutes into the game. Texas would answer back 2 minutes later when a well placed free kick found its way into the box and skipped past the Colorado keeper. Cameron Mohseni hit the game winner mid way through the first half to secure a 2-1 win for Colorado.
In the 91's game, Colorado scored early and often and ran away with a 5-0 win. Seedy Bah was the hat trick hero scoring 3 superb goals. Baboucarr Jammeh and Justin Miller capped off the scoring for Colorado. Despite the lopsided score, the game had the feel of a family affair and this was no more apparent then the actions of Texas Rush player Scott Meyer. Mid-way through the second half, Colorado forward Alex Frazier went down with a leg cramp and Scott was the first to his aid, helping a fellow Rush player stretch out his cramp.
"This was a great example of the Rush core value of Respect," commented Rush Soccer Technical Director Andrew Kummer. "These boys fight hard for 90 minutes but are quick to step in and help a fallen competitor."
Texas Rush bounced back on Sunday with wins over the Colorado Rapids. The 16's won 2-1 and the 18's came from behind late in the game to win 4-3 to split their weekend in the Rockies.

Auxerre Draw With Marseille, Face Off with Lyon Awaits (05.03.10) AJA could not close the gap with first place Marseille in their recent clash. A 0-0 draw leaves AJA 5 points behind Marseille for the top of the French table. The draw does keep Auxerre in second place with three games remaining. The toughest of those remaining will come Wednesday when they travel to fourth place Lyon. Auxerre control their own fate and 3 wins guarantee a birth in next seasons Champions League.

The Rush coaching network continues to grow and we are better for it.”
For more on Rush Soccer's newest partner, click here. Rush Soccer's Best Set to Square Off (04.28.10) (Mal Jammeh, Seedy Bah, Aimar Jatta and Baba Bojang of the Colorado Rush 91 Academy Team will face off with the Texas Rush/AJA Academy Teams on Saturday) Four of Rush Soccer’s top teams will face off this weekend when the US Development Academy teams from Texas Rush/AJ Auxerre visit Colorado Rush/AJ Auxerre in non-conference play.
“We are looking forward to the opportunity to compete with Colorado Rush AJ Auxerre. It will be a true measure of where our Academy players and teams are at this time of year,” said Texas Rush Technical Director Don Gemmell. “What is really cool a few of these boys from each club will travel together over to France later this summer and compete together.”
The 91’s from Texas Rush sit in 7th place in the Texas Division heading into the weekend. They have struggled down the stretch dropping 5 of their last 6 with a tie being the other result. Jose Ruiz and Patrick Toh lead the team with 7 and 6 goals respectively. The 93’s are in 5th place and come in winners of three straight games. Elliot McGilbra leads the team with 8 goals on the year.
“We have great respect for Texas Rush. They compete in one of the most difficult divisions in the country and their coaching staff is second to none. Every Academy game is an important one, but this one will be special playing against our Rush brethren,” commented Colorado Rush Technical Director Erik Bushéy.
The 91’s from Colorado currently lead the Frontier Division but have had a streak of disappointing ties slow them after a start of 9-1. They are led by Gambian Abdoulie ‘Aimar’ Jatta with 14 goals.
The 93’s sit in third in conference and hope to forget a month of April that saw only 1 win along with 3 ties and 3 losses. Akio Ohtake-Gordon leads the attack with 5 goals thus far.
“Everyone in the Rush organization has been anticipating this Texas-Colorado matchup for some time now, said Rush Soccer Technical Director Andrew Kummer. “It is already difficult enough to earn 3 points in the USSDA but the added pressure of competing against a club within your own organization should make for an interesting day of football.”
So Cal Boys Win State Cup (04.29.10) The U17 Nike Boy's from So Cal Rush recently won the 2010 State Cup Championship in the Presidents Cup Division. The boys will now compete in the regional tournemant that will be held in Medford, Oregon starting June 17. Great work boys and good luck in Oregon!
Auxerre Win Third Straight (04.27.10) Three second half goals propelled AJ Auxerre to their third consecutive win, the latest against Toulouse, and extend their unbeaten streak to an impressive 11 games. The win keeps Auxerre (66pts) safely in second place in Ligue 1, but a win by first place Marseille over Saint Etienne leave them 5 points up on AJA with 4 games to play. Despite being statistically outplayed by Toulouse, AJA needed only 5 shots on frame to score its three goals and walk away with the victory. Benoit Pedretti opened the scoring 2 minutes into the second half and AJA leading scorer Ireneusz Jelen added twice to his total with goals in the 68th and 79th minutes. AJA’s chase of the elusive French title (only 2 teams have won over the last 8 seasons) will most likely come down to the next two games. They travel to Marseille on Friday for a chance to trim the lead to two points. 5 days later, AJA will face 5th place and defending League Champion Lyon.

"Alaska Airlines Cup", formally known as the Ina K Memorial Cup (04.22.10) It is with great pleasure that we announce the renaming of the Ina K Memorial Cup to the ALASKA AIRLINES CUP. The "Ina K" was named in memoriam of Ina Kristiansen, a beloved Alaskan soccer player, who passed away in the early 90's. These medals are awarded at the conclusion of the tournament to one player on each team who exemplifies the spirit with which Ina played the game. The Alaska Rush is excited to partner with Alaska Airlines as the new sponsor of this tournament and would like to thank Alaska Airlines for their generous support of Alaska youth soccer. The ALASKA AIRLINES CUP, the largest youth soccer tournament in Alaska, is an international youth soccer tournament, with over 2,000 players in age divisions from U10-U19. Gambia Rush Stars Shining Bright in Colorado (04.12.10) (From left: Baboucarr Jammeh, Seedy Bah, Aimar Jatta, Famara Bojang their first week in Colorado) The Gambia Rush are not even into their third official month as a Rush partner but the effect Gambian players have already had in America is staggering. Four Gambian boys are currently playing in Colorado with the Rush US Developmental Academy teams. As of today, the Gambian boys have accounted for 21 goals and a handful of shutouts as the 91's are sitting atop the Frontier Division in the Central Conference. Baboucarr (Mal) Jammeh recently sat down to talk about his experience so far in the States.
What would you say about your experience here in Colorado with the Rush this far? "Playing with the Rush has been a great thing. I feel it is very important to my career. A player's motivation is very important. I am very motivated to be here."
What is your objective? What would you like to achieve from being here in the U.S.? "After I play with the Rush, I would like to play professional football in the U.S. or outside of the U.S.."
Would you be interested in first playing with a college team? "Coming from where I did in Gambia, I am interested in playing professional football. This has become a possibility recently for young Gambian palyers. Several of us are playing in the MLS, and a few are signing with the junior teams in Europe."
How does training with the Rush compare to your training with your Gambain club and National team experience? "It is good for a player to be exposed to many coaches. Different coaches can help you to develop different strengths. We train 2 times each day here, which is what we do at home. We train in the mornings with Rush coaches in small sided situations. Many of these coaches, such as Wes Hart and Seth Trembly and Mike Pserchio, have had experience playing in the MLS. They help us to get better. In the afternoons we train with our DA teams."
Michigan's Weber Reflects on ODP Trip to Holland (04.09.10) Mallory Weber of the '94 Michigan Nike Rush recently returned from a trip to Holland with the Region 2 ODP team. Below are Mallory's thoughts from the trip.
"Representing the United States and playing with ODP Region ll in the Netherland’s was exciting and fun. I met so many new people and have memories that will last a long, long time. International travel was different than traveling in the U.S., starting with the 7+ hour plane ride through the night, getting little sleep, arriving at 7:30AM (5 hours ahead of home) and going straight to training.
I improved my offensive skills by playing with and against nationally ranked players. Specifically, my shooting techniques around the box and my offensive movement in the final third improved. This trip also gave me the opportunity to experience new and different coaching styles and strategies. Game pace was much faster than the Regional ODP games and the opponents were not used to our playing style, which pressured their back line. When we pressured, they made mistakes, which we were able to capitalize on. We kept them from scoring by moving the ball around quickly, playing simple and keeping the ball on the ground. Our opponents were very technically skilled and played hard, clean and played to win. The most important lesson I learned was to know I am able to play and be effective at the international level, which is a big confidence builder. My favorite experiences from the trip are:
1) Scoring on the Netherland’s National team goalie (She will be their goalie for the World Cup)
2) Beating the U17 Netherlands National team 1-0
3) Sightseeing in the Netherlands and Belgium using public transportation; bikes, busses, trains, boats and trams. I liked seeing how the people lived, what they ate and hearing a new language on the field. The opponents spoke Dutch and French so we could not understand them, but they also spoke English and understood us.
Michigan RUSH prepared me for this unique experience by providing great coaching, a soccer diet that stresses improvement, challenging matches, the best teammates and the opportunity to play with Colorado RUSH in the Manchester Cup and ECNL matches. I want to thank everyone that supported, trained and prepared me for this trip."

Rush Core Values: RESPECT - Featuring Alaska Rush (04.05.10) (U13 Alaska Rush Nike) Rush players, coaches, staff and parents are expected to know and follow the 11 Rush Core Values. One of these core values is respect. Respect: Respect everyone. Respect the opponent, the rules, your colleagues, your superiors and subordinates. Be thoughtful and considerate. A recent article published on TopDrawerSoccer.com talks of the appaling behavior of parents and players at a national tournament a few weeks back. However the U13 Nike boys from Alaska were mentioned as 'exemplifying good behavior and class throughout the week.'
"I like this core value simple because everyone deserves respect," said Rush President Tim Schulz. "If you are the underdog, yes, show due respect, but fear no one and believe you will come out on top. Conversely, lack of respect for the opponent finds you with a loss. A person with a good attitude shows respect to his competitor. To see the article please click here.
