(12.31.09) Notes From a First Year Club: GA Rush It has been quite a year for the Georgia Rush. After making the change from the Stars of Georgia to the Georgia Rush in late May, Georgia Rush Technical Director Ron Apollon and the Georgia Rush staff got to work on bringing the Rush Way to Rush Soccer's 23rd partner.
Ron recently took some time to reflect on the first seven months of the Georgia Rush:
The inaugural GA Rush season has successfully been completed, leaving many of us optimistically curious about what the future holds. The Stars to GA Rush journey started in late May after I was introduced as the new Technical Director. There was very little time to get acquainted with the new surroundings and the staff, as the tryouts were already upon us. There was a lot of enthusiasm and curiosity about the Rush partnership that made the tryout process even more interesting. Although the turnout for a couple of age groups was not as great as we had hoped, we still managed to retain the majority of the players and attracted a number of new ones. The players were very excited about the new uniforms and anxious to start playing.
The excitement of being the newest Rush partner was short lived since Iowa was introduced as the 24th Rush organization in early June. Regardless, there was a lot of excitement about the change and about being part of the 35,000 plus Rush players; one of the largest, if not the largest, youth clubs in the world.
With no time to relax from tryouts, GA Rush Executive Director Fahmi El-Shami and I headed to Kansas in July for the annual Technical Directors Summit. It was an eye opening experience to see how coaches/directors from the various Rush clubs interacted and helped each other. It was amazing to hear stories about how the various clubs shared resources and players. It was also a treat to meet the Rush Soccer Partner of America (SPA) staff headed by Tim Schulz who went to the extreme to assist us in making the transition to the “Rush Way”. The support that we get from SPA in dealing with issues from Operations, Human Resource, Coaching, Player Development etc. is by far the best in the country. Unfortunately, we could not stay in Kansas longer to attend the annual Rush Festival, (5 days of fun and soccer for all Rush U12 players) but we were determined to attend with our teams next year. However, I could not wait to get back to GA to implement the ideas and programs that Rush offers.
Team camps for all Academy and Select teams marked the beginning of the season as coaches got to work with all their players for the first time since tryouts. Once the season began, the players got the opportunity to participate in various additional programs to further improve their skills including the Juggling Club, Finishing clinic, Friday Free Play, 1 v 1 Skills clinic, and Goalkeeper clinics. There was a new atmosphere at the club with all the players wearing their Rush practice shirts and some even singing the Rush songs at practices. Tim Shultz, the Rush President and CEO, visited GA Rush in early September and was very impressed with his observations. Tim stated:”We are very pleased with Georgia Rush and the progress they have made in the last few months. It is not easy to change a corporation overnight. It takes time, dedication and planning. Georgia Rush has the right people to get the job done and the Rush brand is better off with Georgia as one its partners”. During the short visit, he managed to train 4 of the teams, conduct a coaching clinic, meet with the newly formed Board of Directors, with the parents, with some of the neighboring clubs and coaches, and even assisted in the girls ODP tryouts.
Despite the constant rain throughout the season that prevented many local clubs from training, the GA Rush teams were fortunate and continued to train at the Stars Athletic Club’s indoor facility. Consequently, many of the teams experienced some great success in the GA league as well as in tournament play. Congratulations to the following teams for their accomplishments this season:
U10 Girls – Atlanta Cup Finalist U11 Boys – Lanier Academy Cup Finalist, Cherokee Academy Cup Champions U11 Girls –NASA Classic Champions, Atlanta Cup Semi Finalist U12 Boys -- Lanier Academy Cup Finalist, Atlanta Cup Finalist U12 Girls – Atlanta Cup Finalist U13 Boys Nike – Atlanta Cup Semi Finalist U13 Girls Nike – Turkey Clash Champions U15 Boys Nike–NASA Classic Champions U15 Girls Nike– Athens Invitational Finalist U16 Girls Nike – Atlanta Cup Semi Finalist U16 Girls Swoosh – NSA Nike Cup Champions U17 Boys Nike – NSA Nike Cup Finalist U19 Girls Nike – NSA Nike Cup Finalist, Savannah Senior Cup Semi Finalist

(12.24.09) Auxerre Back on Winning Track
The consensus surprise club this season in the French Ligue 1 is AJ Auxerre who, after defeating Marseille 2-0 in front of 50,000 on Wednesday, sit in fifth place with 32 points. Bordeaux is running away from the pack leading the way with 43 points but Auxerre are just two points out of second place heading into the Christmas holiday.
Against Marseille, a team many figured to challenge for the league title, AJA took the lead just before halftime when Dennis Oliech finished a crossed ball for the 1-0 lead. In the second half AJA goalkeeper Oliver Sorin made several key saves and Oliech put the game out of reach scoring again in the 79th minute.
Auxerre will now take a three week break from league play before starting back up on Saturday, January 16 when they host Boulogne. The two teams played to a scoreless draw in late August.
Prior to league play starting back up, Auxerre will play SC Amiens in the Coupe De France on Friday, January 8.
(12.21.09) Auxerre Draw Third Straight
For the third straight game, AJ Auxerre played to a tie in the French Ligue 1.Most recently Auxerre drew with Toulouse 1-1 in a very physical match. The recent stretch of ties has dropped Auxerre to seventh in the league.
Toulouse opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Brazilian Luan finished a cross to give the visitors an early lead.
Auxerre controlled the flow of play from that point on but could not find the back of the net until the 90th minute when Roy Contout finished off of a flicked on cross. At that point, Toulouse was down to 10 men as Etienne Didot saw red in the 86th minute (one of 7 cards shown in the game).
Auxerre (29 points) will be on the road Wednesday, December 23 when they travel to 2nd place Marseille (32 points).

(12.19.09) Interview With A Champion: Ari Dimas
 Virginia Rush Alum Ari Dimas
After helping lead the Virginia Cavaliers to their sixth National Championship (first since 1994), Virginia Rush alum Ari Dimas took a few minutes off during finals week to talk about winning the National Championship.
UVA went on a terrific run to end the season eventually culminating in the National Championship. What were you feeling going into the final game against an undefeated Akron team? We really felt like we were destined to lift the trophy in the end. We had a couple close brushes with Wake (Forest), but came out on top. Then in the final game we knew if we went out there and played our game, being the great defensive team that we are, and get a few chances we would come out on top. And thankfully, we did.
In the finals against Akron, the game goes into a shootout and you are one of the players to take a kick. What were you feeling stepping up to the spot with a chance to put your team up? Well obviously there is immense pressure. The stadium is full and packed and people are going crazy, plus the game is on national television. As I ran up for the kick and set the ball down, it was all about settling my emotions. It’s a situation where you can get hyped up and psych yourself out but it’s really a mind game. On the TV replay I actually saw myself take a deep breath before the kick to calm down and focus on the three seconds of work that I needed to put in to help this team. Thankfully I was able to calm myself down enough and get it done.
Did you know which direction you were shooting before you walked up to take the kick? Yeah. I had decided that for the Friday game against Wake. We had played them to a shootout in the ACC tournament and I had beat their keeper to the left, so I figured he would know that about me, so I decided that I would switch it up if we got to that point again. The game didn’t go to PK’s with Wake (UVA won 2-1 in overtime) but it happened on Sunday (against Akron). I didn’t want to change anything up with my mental preparation. I knew I was going to go to the right on Friday and stayed with going to the right on Sunday. I felt that switching it up might have psyched me out. So again it was just about staying calm and sticking to the plan that I had prepared for.
What is your favorite thing about playing college soccer? Probably just being able to represent my school. Every time I put on the shirt, every time I touch our crest, the V Saber with the five stars for the five championships, and now we have our own 6th star. There is a certain feeling of pride and honor that all of the students that are representing their schools understand. It really is a special feeling.
You were born in Italy. Did you spend much time growing up across the Atlantic and if so does your game have a ‘European’ feel to it? My mom is in the Navy and was assigned in Naples. We stayed there for about three years and then we country hopped for about 10 years prior to settling in the Virginia Beach area. After Italy, we moved to a few spots in the States before leaving to go back over sees. We lived in Belgium where I really developed into the player I am today. I played a lot of soccer in Belgium. We lived in Bahrain, an island nation in the Persian Gulf and then to Virginia Beach. I’ve really been fortunate in my up bringing. I have seen some neat places and it has really helped me develop a global perspective, especially in school. It’s been pretty rewarding. So to a certain extent I feel like I have some of the European skill set in me- the touch and vision. But I also think I have some aspects of the American style, I’m a hard worker, I’m a hustler. I think I have a good combo of lots of styles.
How did playing for the Rush get you prepared for the ACC? The Rush and the Development Academy itself is just the top rung of youth soccer for college. The training, Coach Hoffman and Coach Dengerink, down in Virginia Beach is top caliber and top quality. These guys have trained some of the greatest players in this country, National Team guys. They know how to prepare you and help you get to that next level. Under their tutelage for those two years I developed well and I think they really helped prepare me ultimately to walk on to UVA’s team.
(12.16.09) Auxerre Draw Again
For the second time in four days, AJ Auxerre have played to a scoreless draw in the French Ligue 1. Tuesday, Auxerre who sit tied for third place, could not find the back of the net against Valenciennes who sit just one point behind AJA.
Auxerre (28 points) will be back on the pitch Sunday when they host Toulouse who sit in the middle of the pack with 24 points.
(12.16.09) Florida Rush Win at CASL
Competing in very cold and rainy weather, the Florida Rush U16 Nike boys team overcame some terrible fields conditions this past weekend to return home as CHAMPIONS of the 2009 CASL National Soccer Series.

(12.14.09) University of Virginia Wins National Championship Virginia Rush alums Ari Dimas and TJ Cyrus and the rest of the University of Virginia Cavaliers are the 2009 NCAA Men’s National Champions after defeating Akron in a shootout.
In the shootout, Dimas (a redshirt Freshman) would take and convert the second kick to put UVA up 2-1 after two rounds. The Cavs would go on to win the shootout 3-2 to claim their 6th National Championship and first since 1994.
(12.13.09) Auxerre tie Lorient; Sit in 5th
After a two game losing streak, AJ Auxerre managed to get a point in a 0-0 at Lorient. The tie keeps Auxerre (27 points) one point ahead of Lorient in the standings and in 5th place in the league, just ahead of a slew of teams with 26 points.
Both teams had several quality scoring chances throughout the game but both goal keepers came up big when called upon to keep the game scoreless.
Auxerre will return to action against Valenciennes Tuesday, December 15th for a rare weekday game. The midweek matchup will have great importance as Valenciennes (26 points) sits just one point behind AJA.
(12.11.09) Foxhoven Adds All-American Honors to 2009 Accomplishments University of Portland super-sophomore Danielle Foxhoven has been named to the 2009 NSCAA All America 2nd team. The event was Maddie’s first as part of the Region IV ODP team. “It was a good week. It wasn’t as hard physically as I had anticipated because we had some days off between games. While in Florida the Region IV team had two training sessions to get some time together on the field prior to playing games. The competitive level of my team in Colorado helped me to get ready for this level of play.” Maddie will be back in action this weekend when the Colorado 16’s head to the ECNL Final Four Showcase in College Station, Texas. The 16’s are currently 3-0 in the ECNL “A” bracket having already beat Eclipse Select (IL), Birmingham United (AL), and St. Louis Scott Gallagher (MO). After an average start to the season, Auxerre have found their form of late winning seven straight and extending their unbeaten streak to 10 games. The French frontrunners have not lost a league match since late August. Their 26 league points give them the edge over Bordeaux (25) and Lyon (25) after 13 games. Against Monaco (Rush Soccer’s former partner), Auxerre were led by goals late in each half by Adama Coulibaly and Delvin Ndinga. Coulibaly’s goal in the 45th minute started with a free kick by Benoit Pedretti who sent a pin-point ball into the box where Coulibaly rose above the Monaco defense and headed the ball past keeper Stephane Ruffier. Despite some second half pressure from Monaco, the Auxerre defense held firm and Ndinga’s goal in the 87th minute ended any hope for Monaco to walk away with a point. Auxerre will next head to Paris to take on Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday November 28th.

(11.16.09) Rush Players Have Success in Opening Rounds of The 'Big Dance' After the first 2 rounds of the Women’s NCAA Soccer Tournament there are still 7 teams alive with Rush players on their roster.
Santa Clara - Colorado Rush alum Jordan Angeli and the Broncos needed overtime to beat Michigan State 1-0 in the first round despite outshooting the Spartans 29-3 and holding Michigan State without a shot on goal. In the second round Santa Clara took on Oklahoma State, the Tournament Champion from the Big 12. Angeli got Santa Clara on the board in the 13th minute when she scored a header goal off of a flip throw for her 7th goal of the year. Oklahoma State evened the game just after the start of the second half and the game would go scoreless through overtime and the game went to penalty kicks. Angeli would make her shot and Santa Clara wound up winning the shootout in the 7th round. Santa Clara will now advance to the round of 16 where they will take on No.1 seed an undefeated Stanford. Wisconsin - The Kelter girls (Alev and Derya) from Alaska Rush and the rest of the Wisconsin Badgers needed over time and a shootout to take down Arizona State in the first round. They beat the Sundevils 4-3 in the shoot out. In the second round, the Badgers took on the No.3 seed UCF Golden Knights. A first half goal by the Badgers was enough to hold off the Golden Knights and Wisconsin earned the 1-0 win and a trip to the round of 16 where they will take on Boston College. Alev led Wisconsin in shots over the weekend. Portland – Colorado Rush Alum Danielle Foxhoven continued her dominating play during the Pilots’ first game of the tournament against Denver. Danielle assisted on Portland’s first goal and scored the second as the Pilots easily took care of the University of Denver 4-0. In the second round Danielle assisted on the first of two Portland goals as they beat Washington 2-1 to secure their 20th win of the year. Portland will take on Virginia Rush alums Julien Johnson and Kristin Carden and No. 3 seed Virginia Tech in the next round. Virginia Tech – Virginia Tech beat Murray State 2-0 in the opening round behind a shutout from Virginia Rush alum Kristin Carden. In the win VA Rush Alum Julien Johnson also assisted on the Hokies first goal. The win was the first ever in the NCAA tournament for Virginia Tech. Dayton, the Hokies second round opponent, came into the game still undefeated on the season at 16-0-5. Virginia Tech wound up winning the game 3-1 to advance to the round of 16 for the first time in program history. They will take on No. 2 seed Portland. Virginia - Virginia Rush Alum Katie Carr and the Cavaliers took down St. John’s in the first round of the tournament with a shootout victory after a scoreless regulation and overtime. The Cavs offense would explode in the second round with 6 goals in a 6-2 rout of No. 4 seed Penn State. Despite trailing 2-0 early, the Virginia offense found their stride and scored 6 straight to advance to the third round against No. 1 seed UCLA. North Carolina – Emmalie Phankuch and defending champion North Carolina outshot first round opponent High Point 31-0 but only managed 1 goal in their opening round game. The Tar Heels offense would be back to form in the second round against Georgia. 4 goals and a 7th consecutive shutout sends the Tar Heels through to the Sweet 16 where they will take on ACC foe Maryland. Florida State – No. 1 seed Florida State and Florida Rush Alum Alex Crown breezed through first round opponent South Eastern Louisiana 4-1. Alex, who is a Freshman for the Seminoles, recorded her second career assist on the Seminoles 4th goal. The Seminoles then blanked California 3-0 in the second round. They will take on Texas A&M in the next round.
(11.16.09) Rush Players Lead Whitworth University on National Championship Run (From left: Bushéy, Sherpe, Spangler) Three players from three different states and two different Rush clubs have partnered to lead Whitworth University (Spokane, WA) to a third straight Northwest Conference Title (a feat that has not been accomplished in over 20 years). Nate Spangler of New Mexico Rush along with Brian Sherpe and Cameron Bushéy of Colorado Rush are regular first eleven players for the northwest power. Spangler led his New Mexico Rush team to inches away from a regional title the last two years in a row. Sherpe is a Colorado native and went to nationals two years in a row with Rush leading the Rush U18 Academy team to the national tournament two years ago as well as the U19 boys (USYS) this year. Bushéy is actually from the state of Washington but has played major events with Colorado Rush for the last three years including last year’s U19 run for a national championship which ended in a third place finish. All three players earned All-Conference honors this season. Whitworth has advanced past the first two rounds of the Division III National Tournament and will host the third round game this coming weekend against Hardon-Simmons who upset Division III power, Trinity University. (11.08.09) Auxerre Win Again; Sit In 3rd
An own goal and a missed Le Mans free kick gave AJ Auxerre a 1-0 victory, and their sixth consecutive win in the French Ligue 1 over the weekend. Auxerre landed the first and only goal of the game just six minutes after halftime when a saved Auxerre shot was deflected off of Le Mans defender Jaoa Paulo and slipped into the net. Auxerre managed to hold the lead for the remainder despite two Le Mans shots hitting the post and a missed Penalty Kick in the 87th minute. The win gives Auxerre 23 points, just two shy of league leader Bordeaux (2nd place Lyon (23 points) still had a game to play at time of posting). AJA continues their unbeaten streak of 9 games (7 wins, 2 ties) and will have a two week league break before an important home matchup with AS Monaco on Saturday November 21.
(11.04.09) The Lighter Side of Soccer
Gabby Susich of the Alaska Rush Nike 98 girls (who are State Cup Champs) really got into the Halloween spirit last weekend. This photo is of Gabby and her pony, Solo, who is dressed up as the official Rush soccer ball and is also fitted with four shin guards. Great idea for a costume Gabby!
(11.03.09) Iowa Rush Triumphant in Two Title Games The Iowa Rush have taken home a pair of Iowa State Cup Championships over the last two weekends. The club sent four teams to the Cup finals as the U15, U16, U17 and U18 girls all made it to the title game. The U16's topped EIU 2-1 behind goals from Brady Clark and Mackenzie Rothfus. Keeper Cara Larson also came up big stopping an EIU breakaway with five minutes left in the game to keep Rush in the lead. The U18's also took home top honors after their 3-1 victory over WDMJUSC. Despite falling behind early, the 18's fought back behind a hat-trick from Claire Clark to win the Cup. In the other two championship games, the 15's fell 1-0 giving up a goal late in the game and the 17's dropped a tough 2-0 game to EIU. Iowa Rush Technical Director Corbin Stone is happy with the direction his club is headed saying, "In just a short period of time, we have been able to make tremendous strides in developing players, establishing an appropriate club culture and obtaining results when it counts, at State Cup for the older players." He continued, "No doubt this is a tribute to the support we receive from the parents, the dedication of our players, the quality of our coaching staff, and the vision of our board of directors. We would be remiss if we did not mention how great it is to be part of the Rush organization, which helps us be better both on and off the field." The Iowa State Cup Champs will advance to the Region II Championships in Ohio next summer.
(11.02.09) Auxerre win 5th Straight New Rush partner AJ Auxerre of the French Ligue 1, were victorious for the fifth consecutive league game with a 2-1 win over rival Montpellier on the weekend. Auxerre forward Ireneusz Jelen scored both Auxerre goals in the first half and the home team held on for the win despite giving up a goal in the 90th minute. With the win Auxerre is now unbeaten in their last 8 league matches with 6 wins and 2 ties. They are currently tied with Montpellier for fourth in the league with 20 points- five points shy of league leader Bordeaux. Auxerre will be back on the pitch November 7 when they travel to Le Mans.

(10.29.09) Tennessee Boys win Region III Premier League The 96 boys from the Tennessee Rush have won the 2009-2010 Region III Premier League’s Central Division! The boys had a record of 8-0-1 against other Central Division opponents. The Region III Premier league is made up of State Champions and state runners up from Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. By winning the league, the boys now qualify for the Region III Championship held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in June. The boys have another big test ahead of them this weekend as they look to defend their Tennessee State Cup Championship this weekend. Great work in the Premier League and good luck this weekend boys!
(10.27.09) Colorado Girls Capture Pair of State Cups On a cold, windy Sunday in northern Colorado, the Colorado Rush girls battled the elements and their opponents and came away with a pair of Colorado State Cup Championships and a second place runner up.
The U16 Colorado Nike Girls
The U16 girls led by head coach Tim Schulz squared off against rival Real National. Rush dominated the possession in the first half and created several scoring chances. Lindsay Horan got Rush on the board 1-0 when she found herself 1v1 with the Real keeper and calmly slotted the ball into the lower right-hand corner of the net. Lindsay would strike again in the second half when she beat three Real defenders, drew a penalty in the box and converted the Penalty Shot for a 2-0 lead. That was all the 16's would need as their stifling defense held Real without a quality scoring opportunity for the remainder of the game. The win now gives the 16's four straight State Cup titles!
 The 17 Colorado Nike Girls
The U17's, coached by Andrew Kummer, squared off against Pride for the second consecutive year. Despite trailing at two different points in the game, the 17's stuck with it and walked away with a 4-2 win and their second straight State Cup Championship. Pride opened the scoring early in the second half only to be equaled minutes later by Kelsey Loupee. Pride would score again quickly and held a 2-1 lead until about 10 minutes remaining in the game. Then the Rush girls got their offense clicking. In a matter of minutes Kaitlyn Bassett scored a header goal off of a corner kick, Juliana Grover knocked in a cross to take the lead and Annie Kunz put on the exclamation point with a left footed rocket from 25 yards out. Just like that, Rush had won!
In a rematch from last years cup final, the 15 Nike girls took on Real National's 15's. A Real goal mid-way through the first was enough to hold off the Rush despite some good scoring chances late in the game. Real won 1-0.
The 16's and 17's will head to the Region IV tournament in New Mexico in June while the 15's will have to wait until February to see if they will be rewarded a wild card spot. But overall a great weekend for the Colorado Rush. Congratulations girls!
(10.24.09) Florida Rush Player Lands in U17 Player Pool Over the next several days, Nicolas (Nico) Melo of the Florida Rush U16 Nike Team, will be attending a training camp in Bradenton, Florida. This camp, run by US Soccer, is the first stage in the long journey towards selecting the players that will make up the next American team for the U17 World Cup.
Those of you who follow youth soccer closely know that the U17 World Cup is just days away (the US kicks off Monday against Spain). However, Nico and the rest of the players at the camp this week are working toward the 2011 U17 World Cup. Although these boys are 2 years away from the next tournament, the preparation begins now.
Over the course of the week-long camp, US staff coaches will select players for Residency in the US training program. Then from those players in the Residency program will be selected the roster for the U17 World Cup team.
"I'm not really sure what to expect from the camp but I know I will have to work hard against some great players," Nico exclaimed. "Playing for the Florida Rush has helped me get to this point. The club is very organized and the coaches are great. I'm very excited for this opportunity."
"Nico's passion for the game is astounding and inspirational. His flair and creativity makes him stand out on the pitch, and his hard work and desire to learn the game has helped him excel in every aspect of the game. He really deserves this opportunity, and I'm proud to have Nico in our Florida Rush program. We all wish him the best of luck," commented Florida Rush Technical Director Marcos Machado.
Good luck this week Nico!

(10.21.09) Come Rain or Come Shine Fall has arrived across the country. With the change of the season, inevitably comes cancelled games from snow, rain and nasty weather. However, the'96 Nike girls from the Washington Rush decided to brave the elements last weekend for a game against NW United. The Lochsloy Soccer fields in Washington might as well have been called Lochness considering the sloppy conditions. Please click here for a slideshow of the slip and slide game. (10.20.09) Rush Select Teams Announced for President's Day Tournament LITTLETON, CO – Rush Soccer has finalized the Rush Select Team rosters for the President's Day Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona, February 12-15. For the second consecutive year, Rush has bought together some of the best talent from Rush clubs across the country to compete in an Invitational Tournament.
Selecting these teams is no small task. The selection of the U13 teams began in late July at the Rush Festival in Kansas where U12 teams from across Rush nation gathered for several days of games, training, classroom sessions and fun. The Festival is designed for the development of Rush players, but also to bring all of the players together to help coaches identify the top players in the age group. Tim Schulz (U13 Boys) and Matt Mittlestaedt (U13 Girls), the head coaches for the U13 teams, through the suggestions of coaches at the Festival, and their own observations, evaluated potential players and eventually selected their teams from a very large and talented player pool. Of the 32 players on the U13 rosters, 29 players were at the Festival.
The construction of the U14 teams was slightly different. Many of the players on the 14's rosters were on the Rush Select teams last year as 13's who were selected for the team at the first Rush Festival in Nebraska. Other players were suggested by their respective clubs Technical Director, at which point they were entered into a pool with other top Rush players, then the coaches of the U14 teams trimmed their rosters down to the current numbers.
On the 2010 teams, 16 different clubs are represented from Hawaii to Virginia; Florida to Alaska and all points in between. "Bringing all of these players together from across the country will really be a true test for Rush Soccer. We have never taken a select team to an event of this caliber, but we are very excited to see how our elite players do in that kind of environment," said Rush Technical Director Andrew Kummer.

(10.13.09) Foxhoven on Fire
Danielle Foxhoven has continued her assault on college defenses around the country. The sophomore from the Colorado Rush has scored an incredible 15 goals in only 12 games this season and has the Portland Pilots ranked No. 2 in the country.
Danielle has been on a torrid pace all season but the last 3 games she has been unstoppable scoring 9 goals total against Montana (3), Washington State (2) and Gonzaga (4) respectively.
"Scoring goals is the most difficult aspect of the game and somehow Danielle is making it look easy. I am looking forward to the day that I can watch her do the same against the likes of Germany and Brazil. If her desire and passion continue to grow with her game, she will do just that," commented Colorado Rush Technical Director Erik Bushey, who coached Danielle to back-to-back US Youth Soccer Championships.
Though only just over half way through her second year, Danielle has already scored 31 goals, enough to crack the top 10 all time at Portland, a difficult task in 4 years let alone one and a half. Danielle also has 72 career points, good for 14th all-time at Portland.
Thanks to her 4 goal effort over conference foe Gonzaga, Danielle was named Women's College player of the Week by Soccer America for the second time this season.
(10.11.09) Casey Scores Two, Americans Advance to South Africa
Conor Casey scored the first two goals of his International career and the US Men's National team beat Honduras 3-2 to clinch a spot in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Conor tied the game 1-1 in the 55th minute after beating the keeper to a ball in the box and knocking a header into the back of the net. He would score again seven minutes later after beating the off-side trap and slotting the ball to the keepers left giving the Americans a 2-1 lead and quieting the hostile crowd. Landon Donovan would make it 3-1 with a well placed free kick just minutes later.
A scrappy Honduras team that had gone 8-0 in home qualifying matches prior to the game, would score their second goal in the 78th minute and had an opportunity to tie the game from the penalty spot late but the shot went over the cross bar and the US held on for the victory.
"This is surely a defining moment in the career of Conor Casey. Scoring 2 goals in the game that clinched a World Cup birth is truly amazing," said Andrew Kummer, Technical Director for Rush Soccer.
The big striker, and Colorado Rush alum, currently sits in second place in the MLS having scored 16 goals for the Colorado Rapids.
The US will have on final match in qualifying against Costa Rica on October 14th.
(10.09.09) Virginia Rush Alum Named Player of the Week
Virginia Tech goalkeeper Kristin Carden made quite an impression on soccer publications across the country last week when she led the Hokies to a pair of wins over Top 25 ACC foes.
Kristin, a former player with the Virginia Rush, helped defeat instate rival Virginia for just the second time in program history (and on the road), then made 10 saves in a shutout win over then No. 1 ranked North Carolina.
For her efforts, Kristin was named ACC Player of the Week, NSCAA National Player of the week and also named to the National Team of the Week for both TopDrawersoccer.com and Soccer America.
Kristin's efforts so far on the season are a big reason why Virginia Tech is ranked No. 12 in the country. They are 10-2 on the season and 4-0 so far in conference play.
VA Tech returns to action on Sunday when they travel to No. 19 Maryland for another ACC bout. (10.07.09) Texas Rush and Florida Rush send player to U18 Men's National Camp The Texas Rush and Florida Rush will both be sending one player to the US U18 Men's National Training camp this week at the Home Depot Center in California.
Texas Rush will be sending a player to a US domestic training camp for the first time in the clubs history. Kevin Alveranga has been invited to attend the U18 Men's National Training camp from October 6-13 in California. Kevin is just one of 36 players, 33 of whom come from within the USSF Developmental Academy programs across the country, invited to the camp. The eight day camp will consist of training, educational meetings and games against academy teams from Chivas USA, LA Galaxy, LAFC and Arsenal.
Kevin is thrilled to be given this opportunity, "To be selected for the training camp by the US Federation is a wonderful honor and I'm extremely excited to be part of the program. To travel to the Home Depot Center, Carson, CA and to be coached by the US National Staff is a fantastic opportunity. A big thank you goes out to the Texas Rush Soccer Club and their current Academy coaching staff for providing an opportunity to further my soccer playing career."
Scott Dean, Director of Coaching - USSF Developmental Academy for Texas Rush knows that this means good things for Kevin. "Kevin is very skillful for a big player who can play under pressure and in tight situations with confidence. His ability combined with the visibility of playing with the Texas Rush, has given him the opportunity to be brought into the U-18 US National training camp. The program brings players the opportunity to excel at the highest level in front of the top coaches in the country; this creates a number of great opportunities that players can not get at the local league level."
Kevin will see a familiar face on the sidelines during the training camp. Texas Rush Technical Director Don Gemmell has been invited into the camp to observe the training methods of the national staff and hopefully continue his coaching education that can then be brought back to Texas Rush.
Florida Rush will also be sending a player out to the camp as forward Bryce Follensbee was invited to attend. Bryce currently plays with the U17 Florida Rush Nike team.
Good luck this week boys!
(10.05.09) "All in the Family" -- Oregon Rush Players to ODP Interregional Oregon Rush players Eli and Zoe Kilmer were recently selected to represent Region IV at the USYS Inter-Regional to be held in Florida over Thanksgiving. Zoe will be attending her first event with the '94 Region IV team, while brother Eli will be playing with the '96 team. "Oregon Rush is very proud of Eli and Zoe," stated Rush Technical Director John O'Sullivan, who also coaches Zoe on the 93 girls Nike team. "Both players can always be found practicing on their own, and asking what more they can do to get better. They have worked very hard to achieve this honor, and we wish them well."
Both Eli and Zoe have followed in the footsteps of big brother Tadd, who was a '92 Region IV pool player and a member of the Rush Select 11 that won the inaugural PSA Tournament in 2008. He is currently a senior and a member of the '91 Boys Nike team, and will be making a college decision soon. "Tadd has been a great player for Oregon Rush, and a great example for his siblings," stated O'Sullivan. And watch out, 9 year old Malie Kilmer will be joining the Oregon Rush competitive ranks next year, and she aims to be the best Kilmer of them all!

(10.04.09) Casey and Team USA Prep for Crucial Qualifiers Former Colorado Rush phenom Conor Casey and the rest of the US Men's National Team continue to prepare for a pair of crucial World Cup qualifiers over the next two weeks. The US will travel to Honduras on October 10th and return stateside for a matchup with Costa Rica on October 14th in Washington D.C.
The Americans currently sit in first place in the CONCACAF region but have yet to guarantee themselves a place in South Africa next summer. One win in their next two games however, would be enough for the US to punch their tickets for a 6th straight World Cup appearance.
Conor, who has been a staple on the US roster since the Confederations Cup in June, currently sits in second place in the MLS with 15 goals in 21 matches.
(09.29.09) Utah Rush Product Staring at Portland Utah Rush Alum Michael Nielson has had a great start to his sophomore season at the University of Portland. This past weekend at the Husky Fever Classic in Washington, Michael helped the Pilots beat Cal Poly on Friday and then played a huge part in Portland's 2-1 upset win over No. 17 Creighton Sunday assisting on the first goal and scoring the game winner late in the second half.
Michael's success at Portland comes as no surprise to Utah Rush Technical Director Eric Landon who said, "Michael is one of the hardest working players I have ever coached, he was very disciplined and focused on his goals. The events that lead him to the University of Portland where based on his drive and motivation to be the best player he could be, he is a great example of what can happen if you work hard."
All of this hard work is paying off as Michael has become a staple in the Portland midfield and is currently tied atop the Pilots scoring list so far this season with 2 goals (both game winners) and 2 assists for 6 points through 7 games.
Michael and his Portland squad will be back in action starting Friday when they open up league play on the road at Santa Clara. (09.26.09) Kiebel, Stanton Invited to Orlando for ODP Maddie Kiebel, who plays for the U16 Colorado Rush Nike team, has been invited to the Thanksgiving Interregional event at the Disney Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida in late November. This event will be Maddie's first as a regional member! She will play with the U16 Region IV team and will get great exposure as the ODP event is being held in conjunction with the Disney Soccer Showcase.
Rush President, C.E.O and Maddie's head coach Tim Schulz has high praise for Maddie, "Maddie continues to amaze me. Her game gets better and better. She is not flashy but she always gets the job done. Her passing game is one of the best I have seen for her age group in the entire country. Game in and game out, Maddie is reliable. I love to watch her play."
Colorado will also be represented in Orlando on the U15 team. Morgan Stanton, who plays with the U15 Nike girls, has also been invited to Florida. Morgan has already had a great 2009 as she was named to the US U14 Women's National Team back in August.
Great job girls and good luck! (09.24.09) Marsh Receives National Recognition Hayley Marsh has been recognized for two honors for her play in games played from September 14-20. Hayley, who played with the 2008 and 2009 US Youth Soccer National Championship Colorado Rush team, was tabbed this week as a member of the Soccer America Women's College Team of the Week after leading San Diego State to two wins over the weekend.
The Aztecs shutout Sacramento State 2-0 then beat Long Beach State 2-1. Against Long Beach, Hayley scored the game winning goal off of a 25 yard free kick.
In addition to her Soccer America honors, the Mountain West Conference also named Hayley as its Defensive Player of the Week.
The accolades come as no surprise for Colorado Rush Technical Director Erik Bushey, "Hayley is long over-due for individual recognition on a national level. I have long said she is one of the best center backs in the country."
Hayley and her team will be back in action on Friday when they take on UC Irvine before hosting the Aztec Classic starting October 2.

(09.21.09) Bates Invited to ODP Interregional David Bates of the Alaska Rush has been chosen to travel with the Region IV ODP team to the US Youth Soccer ODP Thanksgiving Interregional November 27-30. David, who plays for the U13 Rush Nike team in Alaska, will play with the 96 boys at the Interregional, which will be held at the Disney Sports complex in Orlando, Florida.
Craig Naylor, Director of Coaching-Juniors/Seniors, said David has already begun to prepare for November, "He is pretty humble about it here...he started training this week with our 95s and 92s...as well as doing a bunch of individual work as well. He told me last night he is thankful to his teammates for driving him forward...he credits them with much of his success! And he is really stoked about the free gear!!!!"
Keep up the great work David and good luck in late November! (09.17.09) Act on Your Dreams - Defining Perseverance The Santa Clara Women's soccer team is once again a force to be reckoned with in College Soccer. After a rough season last year, the Broncos have started off this season in a big way including upsets of two top 10 teams last weekend. Santa Clara upset No. 5 Notre Dame 2-0 Friday night and followed that up with a 3-1 win over No. 7 Purdue on Sunday. Santa Clara's emergence (5-2-2) back into the national picture is due, in no small part, to the return of Colorado Rush Alum Jordan Angeli. Jordan, a sixth year senior, had spent the last 2 years at Santa Clara rehabbing her knee. A healthy Jordan is clearly paying dividends on the field.
"It's been great so far. Just being back on the field again has been amazing. I'm so thankful for everyone that has helped me, my family, my coaches, everyone with the Rush. That support system has given me the ability to do the best I can when I get out there. I have a great team around me and it is just so exciting being back on the field. I love it," Jordan said when asked how it feels to be back on the field.
Jordan hadn't been in a college match since 2006. Since then she has suffered two torn ACL's (in the same knee) requiring surgery and rehab. "Physical pain was there but emotionally it was so hard to deal with. That's why I'm so thankful for the support group around me. They helped me try and stay focused. I always knew I would be back. At first I was really bummed but knew that I had to approach it with a good attitude and everything would turn out alright."
"Alright" may be an understatement. Jordan currently leads the Broncos in goals (3), including the game winner against Notre Dame, a 40 yard rocket, and points (7) so far this season. Her big goal against Notre Dame and her play against Purdue garnered Jordan enough attention to be named the Soccer America Women's Player of the Week.
"Well, I am not surprised at all, really," said Rush President and C.E.O Tim Schulz, who coached Jordan on the US U20 National Team, "She has overcome so many obstacles. This lady is the epitome of tenacity."
Colorado Technical Director Erik Bushey agreed saying, "Jordan's attitude and fortitude are unmatched. I worked with her this summer (she trained with and mentored the 19 girls) and it seems her determination is greater now than ever before. Her mentality is that of a professional."
Despite everything she's been through, Jordan still has a great outlook on life and offered this piece of wisdom to the young, up and comers in the Rush organization, "Act on your dreams. It's great to dream and have big goals but you have to due your part to make those dreams happen."
Jordan and the rest of her Santa Clara teammates will take on Wisconsin and Colorado this weekend as they look to build on their current 3 game win streak. (09.16.09) It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Nikki Krzysik who played on the Colorado Rush U19 National Championship team in 2006, has been selected in the WPS Expansion Draft by the Philadelphia Independence.
Nikki spent year 1 of the WPS as a member of the Chicago Red Stars. Chicago just missed making the playoffs but still had a great season overall.
"Last year was great. Our last game in Chicago we had over 8,000 fans. It was really awesome all the support that the fans in Chicago showed us. Overall it was a great experience. I learned a lot about myself as a person and a player and it's nice to have 1 year of pro soccer under my belt," Nikki commented on her first season as a pro.
Philadelphia, along with the Atlanta Beat will both be joining the WPS in 2010 as expansion clubs. The move to Philadelphia poses a new challenge for Nikki. "I am so excited to go to Philly! I'm excited to be part of a new organization again. I'm from New Jersey so I am really excited to be closer to home and give my family and friends more of an opportunity to come and see me play. I'm just excited! I think it's going to be great!"
Nikki and the rest of her new teammates will begin preseason for the 2010 season in March. Good luck in your new home Nikki! (09.15.09) We're Going to Disney World! The U18 girls from Florida Rush have won the Disney Qualifier for the third straight year after beating RSL in the Championship. With the win, the girls are now guaranteed a spot in the Disney Showcase event in Orlando later this year. The girls won their bracket going 3-0 and outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 11-3 before winning their semi-final match up 2-0 over First Coast.
"The U18 Nike Girls is made up of a very talented group of girls that can score goals from anywhere making them very unpredictable," said Head Coach Cory Sheffield. "They play a great possession game and have strong defense."
On the boys side, the U18 Nike boys had a great run through the round robin portion of the tournament winning all three games by a combined score of 6-2 to win their bracket. However, they were unable to keep the momentum going and fell in the semifinal to HC United of Florida.
The girls will now compete at the Disney Soccer Showcase presented by Chelsea Football Club December 31, 2009 through January 3, 2010. Good luck Florida Rush! Both players played for the 2007 VA Rush U18 Nike team that participated in the USYS Regional Tournament in Portland, Maine.
O'Neal, a Junior Midfielder at Boston University, scored twice in the Terriers 3-0 road win over Connecticut, BU's first win over UCONN since the 2002 season. O'Neal also notched an assist in the 1-1 draw against Massachutsetts in the season opener.
Flatley, a Junior Defender and the College of Charleston, anchored a defense that shut out Air Force (1-0) and Old Dominion (2-0) and earlier in the week scored a goal in Charleston's 4-3 season opening win over Coastal Carolina.
Jay Hoffman Director Of Coaching Academy for Virginia Rush had nothing but praise to describe these two players, "These 2 youngsters, even though they graduated years ago, whenever they are home from school will call and see when our Academy Teams are training so they can come out and train. They are very dedicated to the game, the Rush organization and to helping younger players in the club. They have really maximized there time with us and are continuing to succeed at a higher level." (09.09.09) Not Quite Tiger Woods But Darn Close The 1st annual Washington Rush 'RUSH to the Hole' Golf Tournament was recently held at Camaloch Golf Course on Camano Island in Washington. There were over 100 participants in the event and everyone had a great time.
The focus of the tournament was to raise money for scholarship players within Washington Rush. Through the hard work of volunteers (Karie Grogan, Sandy Baker, Teresa Bush and Teresa Main, to name a few) the tournament raised $9,300.00 for scholarships. The funds came from sponsorships, golfers and a silent auction of baskets donated by the individual Washington Rush Teams.
"I want to thank all of the golfers and volunteers that made this a special event for our club and can't wait to see everyone at next year's golf tournament," said Washington Rush President Dave Thomas at the completion of the Tournament.
"I think that raising almost ten thousand dollars in our first year is a tremendous accomplishment for our club. I think that everyone involved was not only dedicated to making the golf outing a financial success for our club, but we also wanted to make sure that we put on an event that the entire Rush organization would be proud of. My only regret was in the choice of my foursome!" commented Washington Rush Technical Director Jason Farrell.
(09.04.09) Conor Casey Named to U.S. Roster for World Cup Qualifiers
Rush Alum Conor Casey and the rest of The United States Men's National Team are set to face off with El Salvador in a critical World Cup qualifier on Saturday. The game, which is to be played in Utah at Rio Tinto stadium, is the first of two games in the next week for the U.S. Men.
Following the match against El Salvador, the Americans will travel to Trinidad & Tobago where they will play September 9. The U.S. currently sits in third place in the final round hexagonal, collecting 10 points with a record of 3-2-1 through six games. (09.04.09) Alaska Rush Captures Three State Titles Although the winners of the 2009 US Youth Soccer Champions have only been able to call themselves champions for just over a month, State Cup competitions have already begun, effectively starting the march towards the 2010 championships. Alaska is the first state to crown their champions and the Alaska Rush captured three state titles and will now be sending the U12 Nike Girls, U13 Boys and U18 Boys to the Region IV Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico next June.
Craig Naylor, Director of Coaching Seniors for Alaska Rush, breaks down the three cup winners below.
98 Girls Nike (U12): These amazing group of girls made a fantastic run to the final with two wins and two draws in group play, including an emphatic win over Kenai in the last group game 6-0. That set up a rematch the next day with the same team from the host city! After going down 2-1 at half, the girls responded with two dramatic goals in the first two minutes of the second half, and 3 goals later, they were 6-2 State Champions. This was their first time traveling, and they took everything in stride. Maybe it was the talent show they put together the night before, including a chorus line rendition of the Rush Cheer by their coaching staff, that inspired them to victory!
97 Boys Nike (U13): 34 goals for, 3 goals against in 5 games says it all. This young team made a dominating run through their opposition on their way to a second consecutive championship. 14 boys fit, fast and focused continued to use each and every match to improve their game in some form and fashion, much as they did all season long. And they did so through collective goalkeeping and unselfish team play all tournament.
92 Boys Nike (U18): Return to Far West Regionals for a second year in a row. They dominated their games, winning all and losing none. Consistent and steady, they continue to represent Alaska and the Rush at the highest level. They provide an example for all of our younger teams with their focus and intent. Many of these men will be off to college after their final Regional experience. We wish them the best this year and on into the future! (09.01.09) Foxhoven Named Soccer America Player of the Week Danielle Foxhoven, goal scoring extraordinaire from the Colorado Rush, and current member of the University of Portland Pilots, has been named Soccer America's Women's College Player of the week for games played August 28-30.

She scored a hat trick in the national finals for Rush, and now in week one of the college season, has scored four goals in two games against top ranked DI teams. She is worthy of being in the U23 National Team. Saying "she is special" does not say enough."
Danielle will look to score in her third straight game when the Pilots face off with Colorado College on Friday in Seattle at the Husky Invitational. Click here to see the Team of the Week.
(8.31.09) Soccer 4 Ghana Project - Iowa Rush Collects Uniforms for kids in Ghana Children in Ghana, Africa may soon be sporting soccer uniforms from Ankeny Soccer Club. Iowa Rush has collected over 50 uniforms in two days. The club hopes to collect at least 300 uniforms by September 20th so members of the Ghana Association of Iowa can send the soccer gear to Ghana in October.
The Iowa Rush Soccer Club is working with an Iowa based group called Ghana Association of Iowa to collect old soccer uniforms, socks and shoes so they can be shipped to help schoolchildren in Ghana, who enjoy the game.
The uniform donation program started when Ahmed Agyeman VP of Ghana Association of Iowa, whose children play for the Iowa Rush, recognized that with the upcoming transition from the old Ankeny Soccer Club uniforms to the new Iowa Rush uniforms that the community would have a surplus of used soccer uniforms that could be donated to the children in Ghana. Agyeman contacted Mark Densmore, President of Iowa Rush and Densmore agreed that this was the perfect time for uniform donations since all of the teams are transitioning to the new Iowa Rush uniforms with the upcoming fall soccer season.
Iowa Rush is really excited about this opportunity. "This program has opened many eyes," said Densmore. "Ankeny is such a great community and we are excited to be involved with such a worthy cause. This is also important for the children that learn a huge lesson from this. They see that children in another country will be using their uniforms instead of letting the uniforms pile up in a closet." The uniforms will go a long way to help other children play the game of soccer.

Stanton was selected from a group of 101 of the best players in the country born in 1995. The group spent a week in Pomona, California in front of US National Staff coach Mike Dickey and other coaches, playing, training and showing off their skills prior to the formation of the team.
Iowa Rush Technical Director Corbin Stone attended the I.D. camp to help Coach Dickey choose the country's best. "Morgan was good with the ball and had really good ideas. She's a great kid, worked hard, was very coachable and was quite clean and neat with the ball; very tricky and crafty. She does things differently than other kids (with the ball) and that is the kind of thing that stands out," said Stone about Morgan.
These things are nothing new to Morgan's club coach Wes Hart who said, "Any day of the week you can find Morgan playing. She doesn't care if it's a boys team, a girls team, a Nike team, a Swoosh team, or even an advanced team. She just loves to play."
Colorado Rush Technical Director Erik Bushey echoed Hart's comments, "Morgan is putting in extra time and effort. It makes a difference. She is good on the ball and uses her body ever so well. If she keeps working, this will be the first of many national team experiences."
Of the 101 players attending the I.D. camp, 36 were called back and will be the initial player pool for this particular age group. These 36 will return to California in late August for the U14 training camp at the Home Depot Center in LA. This age group will be watched very closely as these players will be the kids competing in the next U17 Women's World Cup in 2012.

When asked what her college choices are, she says with out hesitation, I want to go to Santa Clara, U.S.C. or UCLA. (07.08.09) More Than A Dream at adidas ESP Camp
At least that's what Cole Chapleski, member of the 90 Rush Academy team, must be thinking. As Andrew Kummer put it, "If I could play with five players in the history of world soccer, he (Zinedine Zidane) would be one of them." Well, Cole got that chance. Zinedine Zidane, recognized as one of the world's all time best soccer players, was brought in by adidas to join the ESP camp. The ESP camp brings in some of the best sophomore and junior soccer players in the country. For Colorado Rush, we had three players participating: Matt Kerridge, Reid Hukari and Cole Chapleski. Cole was selected to participate in tonight's all-star game in which Zizou (Zidane's nick name) played one half with each team. This truly was a once in a life time opportunity for those players, as well as on lookers. Zidane is one of only two players in history to be awarded FIFA Footballer of the Year award three times. He led France to the 1998 World Cup title as well as the 2000 European Championship.
(07.08.09) VA Rush's Trey Saunders Named to U.S. Soccer Development Academy U-15/16 Conference Starting XI Click here for full article.
(07.04.09) Two Rush Players Attend U17 National Camp
Trey Saunders (VA Rush) and Zack Foxhoven (CO Rush) recently had the opportunity to attend a weeklong training camp with the USA U-17 National Team in New Jersey. The U-17 coaching staff, led by Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera, are working to fill their roster for the U-17 World Cup in Nigeria beginning in October.
"The camp experience was good and I enjoyed it a lot," said Trey after camp. "The fields were really nice and the weather, even though it was a little rainy, was nice and cooperative. The professionalism of the event, the players, and the coaches was apparent. We ate every meal together and we had to wear certain outfits to each meal. The play was really fast and I thought I played well. The biggest difference (between the 17's and the Rush Academy teams) would have to be the speed of play and the attention given to minor details (warm-up, cool-down, etc.)"
Virginia Rush President and Technical Director Dave Dengerink believes that Trey's call up was more than due, "Trey is the first Virginia Rush player to truly reflect the Rush Way. He maximizes opportunities with the club, using training, guest playing and coaching to constantly improve. Trey's work rate, passion and willingness to take risks are displayed daily in any soccer environment. He has also dealt with the adversities of being cut, injured and disappointed yet still shows up to compete everyday! I am very pleased that his efforts and commitment from U12 till now are starting to reap the rewards of opportunities at the National Team level. He has earned his chance."
Colorado Rush Technical Director Erik Bushey feels that Foxhoven is also more than worthy of the opportunity to play with the 17's, "Zack is without a doubt one of the best goal scorers in our country; if not the best goal scorer. He is worthy of being in the 17's and I hope the staff see him for what he can be and he is added for the U17 World Cup," said Bushey of the super striker.
Keep up the great work boys and best of luck with the 17's!
(06.29.09) Rush Players Representing the US on the International Stage Rush Alum, Conor Casey, played the final 6 minutes plus stoppage for the United States as they shocked #1 ranked Spain in the semi finals of the Confederations Cup yesterday. For Casey, it was his third straight appearance. He entered at half time in the USA's 3-0 loss to Brazil and in the 82nd minute in their 3-0 win over Egypt. The US will face the winner of Brazil/South Africa in the Confederation Cup Final on Sunday.
In other US National Team news, former Rush standout, Colin Clark, was named to the 23-player roster that will represent the US at the 2009 Gold Cup form July 23rd to July 26th. Clark is having an excellent year for the Colorado Rapids. The left midfielder has scored 3 goals and notched 5 assists so far this season. Clark looks to make his first ever appearance for the US, with his previous National Team experience coming back in November of 2008, when he participated in the U.S.A's training camp held at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. (06.23.09) COLORADO RUSH WIN TWO AT FAR WEST REGIONALS The Colorado Rush brought home a pair of trophies on fathers day as the U19 boys and U19 girls won their respective championships at the Far West Regionals in Lancaster, California.
The boys needed overtime for the second straight game to beat DMS 11 from Cal South 3-2 behind goals from Eddie Pugh, Steven Emory and Ryan Kawulok. The two teams had already played once in group play with the Rush winning 1-0. With the win in the finals, the boys finished the tournament going 6-0 and outscoring opponents 15-4. Colorado Rush Technical Director Erik Bushey was thrilled with the play of the boys over the tournament, "For the 19 boys, this will be an experience they will not soon forget. To win the title is one thing, but to win in the manner in which they did with two, two goal comebacks and overtime victories; well, is amazing. The boys as well as their coach, Danny Bills, deserve all the credit in the world. The win today over SoCal was simply wonderful. I could not be more excited and proud of the boys."
The girls final was a rematch with Utahs Avalanche 90 Premier. The two teams played to a 2-2 tie in group play earlier in the week but the final was a completely different story as the Rush girls won 3-0 behind a hat trick from Emmalie Pfankuck. The girls, coached by Bushey, finished the tournament with five wins, no losses and one tie and outscored their opponents 23-3. Bushey said, "The 19 girls continue to be a special group. After beating the two time national champions from SoCal in the semi finals, they remained focused on the task at hand and earned a 3-0 victory over a Utah team who had scored 30 goals in their first five games. For me, the girls are setting a new standard and I hope they can continue to do so as they compete for back to back national titles."
The two championships are great not only for the Colorado Rush but also Rush soccer across the country.
"It has to be said, that these two enormous victories were made exponentially more sweet because of the support of our fellow Rush teammates/family members. Region IV, and perhaps the country, have not seen the likes of what Rush Soccer is creating. I truly believe Rush is breathing new life to the youth game in America and I am proud to be a part of it," said Bushey.
"All of the Rush needs to be proud of our players. We had Rush athletes in every corner of the soccer complex. People were supporting each other, cheering for each other. What an experience. I was very glad to be part of it all," said Rush President Tim Schulz.
The 19's will now head to another town called Lancaster as they will be going to Lancaster, Massachusetts July 16-21 for the USYS National Championships. Great job at Far West and good luck at Nationals!

(06.07.09) Virginia Rush's Dave Dengerink Inducted into the Colorado Rush Hall Of Fame The Colorado Rush hosted their 4th annual Honor Banquet on Tuesday night to celebrate the clubs successes over the past year.
State cup and league champions all received awards, as did the winners of various other categories such as the Golden Boot, Golden Glove and comeback player of the year among others.
Former Colorado Rush coach and current Virginia Rush President and Technical Director Dave Dengerink became only the fourth person to be inducted into the Rush Hall of Fame; joining past Rush legends Paul Bravo, Conor Casey and Aleisha Cramer.
Rush President and C.E.O Tim Schulz had this to say about Dengerink, "During my employment with the Rush, Dave was the first hire after me. He made a whopping 5k per year. He worked because he loved the game; he loved working with the athletes. He especially loved working with the odd ball athlete; the one everyone overlooked...the Conor Casey's of the world. He saw great in them. Dave was different too; he took a path that the average person would not even dare to think of taking. He fit perfect in the Rush Way. We have enjoyed some great successes and fought through some very tough times. We've become close friends, close, like army men after battle."
"Dave is very deserving of such an award. It was a wonderful evening and I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with him throughout the years," said Rush Technical Director Andrew Kummer after inducting Dengerink.
The night also featured some very special guests including Eurosport co-founder Brendan Moylan who while addressing the audience said, "It's humbling to come and speak before you. Next week I have the opportunity to be in Barcelona for another end of season celebration with another Eurosport partner who recently won the European Cup. I am not being disingenuous when I tell you that this event means more to me then spending an evening with the champions of Europe. Eurosport is about family, commitment and community, and all of those things are on display here this evening."
Congratulations to all of the winners and keep up the great work!

The U18's have been stingy on defense putting up three clean sheets. Check back next week to see how the Rush fared. Michigan Rush technical Director Mark Zathey had this to say about the two teams, "The 17's have been a machine, they play within their system and everyone knows their role. The 18's have been playing with a lot more freedom, a lot more creativity and relying on each other to solve problems to win games." Good luck to the Michigan Rush this weekend and check back next week to see the results.
(05.27.09) Utah Rush Earn State Cup To win a state cup, a team must be able to win in many different ways. Sometimes a team wins big, other times they squeak out a victory. The Utah Rush U-14 Nike girls won every way imaginable to earn the Utah State Cup championship last weekend.
The Rush girls, coached by Rick Lien, breezed through the group section of the tournament outscoring opponents by a combined 9-1 over three games. But the knockout rounds were a different story. They won the quarterfinal game 2-0 and advanced to the semi-final where regular time and the overtime period both finished with no score. The Rush girls took care of business in the PK shootout winning 6-5 to advance to the finals.
The final would again bring some thrilling moments as the Rush needed overtime to fend off La Roca Premier by a final score of 1-0. "Saturday was pretty exciting, these girls have worked hard and they deserve it," said Utah Rush Technical Director Eric Landon after the game.

The three titles won by the Rush were the most by any club in the state and are the icing on a great state cup that saw 12 teams reach the knockout round (one in every age group) and four teams reach the final. The U-16 girls coached by Allie Goff fell in their finals match up with the Ponte Vedra Storm 3-0 but had a great run to the final. (05.10.09) Lindsey Horan's National Team Experience Brian Lux, Assistant Director of Goalkeeping for the Colorado Rush and competitive coach had the opportunity to talk with Rush player Lindsey Horan on her recent experience with the full U15 Women's National Team. Please continue to read to find out more information on her experience. Was this your first camp with the National Team? No, I attended one other camp with them in July of 2008. What was the biggest difference between training with your Rush team(s) and training with the National Team? There are so many different styles of play and you get to play with the top players across the country. The speed of play is much quicker. You also get to experience different coaching styles. What was the hardest part of the camp? We played in a mini-tournament at the end of the camp against Stanford, Cal-Poly and a semi-professional women's team called the 'Storm'. The players could possess the ball so well. They were quick, strong and extremely good. What was one new thing you learned from the camp? To play a lot quicker and to adapt to different style players that I did not know and try to figure out their styles. What advice would you offer to future Rush players who may get the chance to attend a National Camp? Play with players at least 1-2 years older than you to prepare for the camp or for girls, play with boys. It really helps you go in prepared. Don't ever get over-confident and always keep working hard. Set new goals all the time and always have a goal for the camp before you go.
(05.10.09) Paolo DelPiccolo is on the way to Portugal with the U18 Men's National Team
"Always work hard, don't make excuses and listen to your coach's advice." As Paolo DelPiccolo, Colorado Rush AS Monaco U-17/18 captain, gets ready to head to Portugal later this month to represent the United States in a 9 day, 3 game, Youth Men's National Under 18 schedule, he will draw from those core values against Finland, Germany and host Portugal.
Paolo was selected to the pool of players for this team about a year and a half ago and has enjoyed working with head coach Mike Matkovich and his staff, as well as training and competing with the other U18 MNT players. "It's a good group of guys and they bring an enhanced level of intensity and technical skills to every training session and drill," noted Paolo. Paolo switches from his Rush role at central midfield to outside left defender with the U18 MNT. He enjoys the attacking position at outside back and that he can take opponents on and be part of the offensive efforts.
When asked who has influenced his soccer development and he was quick to acknowledge his father, Aldo, as well as Colorado Rush Technical Director and U17/18 Academy Head Coach, Erik Bushey, who notes "Paolo is passionate like few I have coached. I trust him and believe in him. He is a student of the game who has good feet, nice insight and a big heart. I have every confidence that he will represent himself, his family and his club very well as he represents our country." Paolo was quick to remark that his favorite soccer memory was last summer, making the US Soccer Academy Nationals and that it was a great reward for a great group of guys that worked hard all season.
Paolo shared that his favorite subject in school is Multi-media because he likes to work with computer programs to create and edit material. He will be attending and playing soccer at Louisville in the fall.
As a big fan of A. C. Milan, of Italian Serie A, Paolo favors super defender Paolo Maldini who also plays outside left back. Like his idol, he hopes to play professionally but has no preference as to which league. He also wants to continue to represent the United States and hopes to make the Men's National team in the future. Paolo realizes that "You never know when someone (with soccer influence) is watching," and stressed for young players, again, "always work hard."

Washington Rush Technical Director Makes Visit to Colorado
In November of 2008, Rush Soccer proudly announced that Washington Rush had become the 22nd member club into the Rush Soccer Family. Along with a new affiliate, Rush Soccer gained a top notch coach that proved to be influential in leading Pacific Premiere down the path of a partnership with the Rush. While the Director of Coaching at Pacific Premiere, Jason Farrell first learned of the Rush Way through his brother, Brian Farrell, a long time coach for the Alaska Rush.
Jason recently made a visit to the Colorado Rush to learn more about the day to day operations of running a club and to find out what the Rush Way was all about. During his visit, Jason had the opportunity to meet with full-time employees that included Directors of Coaching, members of the Administrative Staff, the Athletic Trainer, Technical Director and President. His busy schedule also included observation of training sessions and participation in Staff and DOC meetings. (04.07.09) Twelve Florida Rush Teamss Advance in Florida State Cup Action In an unprecedented result following the final weekend of qualifying competition for the FYSA (Florida Youth Soccer Association) State Cup, the Florida Rush advanced 12 teams to the Challenge Round of 16. In each State Cup age bracket (U13 to U18) of both boys and girls divisions, a Florida Rush Team qualified to compete in the final rounds of the tournament. In order to achieve this position, each team had to win between two and four games in up to two qualifying rounds against teams paired by the FYSA. This placement signifies that each of the 12 Florida Rush teams is currently four victories away from a state championship.
"It says something good about the accomplishments of a team when they advance to the finals of any tournament, but to have each of our age groups able to finish among the top 16 teams in a state as large and talented as Florida is a tribute to the quality of our coaches, players and families as well as the success of the Rush system," stated Florida Rush President Richie Gray. "It is the type of result we envisioned when we decided to combine Orange County Soccer and Inter-United Soccer in Central Florida to form the Florida Rush. By themselves, each of these clubs had some notable accomplishments. But when pooled together for their talent and directed from the template of Rush management and player development systems, the ability to create advantages for everyone expands exponentially."
Marcos Machado, Technical Director of the Florida Rush is responsible for staffing each age group with highly credentialed coaches who can deliver age-appropriate training, as well as making sure that training is consistently delivered. Machado constantly emphasizes how important it is for players to receive the best instruction. "Even if you have talented players," says Machado, "They will not accomplish all that is possible for them without proper direction." The depth of achievement for the 12 advancing teams from this year's Florida Rush Academy Program demonstrates the club's ability to consistently implement their training programs.
In two weeks all 12 Florida Rush teams will continue their attempts to move forward in the final rounds. Any loss means elimination and any victory advances them toward a title.

(03.30.09) Rush Core Values Dear Rush Membership, as we kick off the 2009 Spring season, the Rush BOD and Staff request you take moment to look at the Rush Core Values by clicking here. Many good points are addressed here but the one that we would like our membership to pay particular close attention to is respect. Our 8th Core Value states, Respect: Respect everyone. Respect the opponent, the rules, your colleagues, your superiors and subordinates. Be thoughtful and considerate.
Ironically, the athletes we respect are the athletes that portray respect. When interviewed, you can see the respect that is given to the game and the opponent. They put others up instead of putting them down. These athletes, the LeBron James', Tiger Woods', Lionel Messi's exhibit respect when in the public eye. We at the Rush should not act any different. So, Staff, Coaches and Player, let the Rush be known for our professional and respectful behavior on and off the field.
Thank you. Tim Schulz, President.

(02.25.09) Texas Rush Sending Players to Compete at the Next Level The Texas Rush AHFC has two U-18 soccer players have signed letters of intent to play collegiate soccer at the next level. Mitchell Cardenas (Woodlands, TX) Mitchell Cardenas has signed a full scholarship to attend Campbell University in Buies Creek North Carolina. Campbell is a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference with a highly successful soccer program. Led by Coach Doug Hess the program has had great success with 2007 conference championships with a 2007 NCAA appearance. In 2008 they were the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season champions. Coach Hess said "We are excited about Mitchell signing with our program at Campbell University. We have had some exceptional midfielders over the last several years and we look for Mitchell to add to that mix. What appeals to us most about Mitchell is that he is first and foremost, a soccer player. He is an exceptional passer with a solid brain for the game. Mitchell thinks his way around the field and is always looking to link the game from back to front. On top of all this, he is a young man with character and personality. I look forward to coaching him over the next four years, as well as watching him develop and grow as both a player and person here at Campbell." Mitchell Cardenas said "I am excited to become a member of the Campbell University men's soccer program. I want to thank my mom, dad and sister for all the support and efforts over the past several years. I also want to thank Scott Dean, my club coach, for helping me grow and develop as a soccer player on and off the field over the last three years."
Jordan Phillips (Woodlands, TX) Jordan Phillips has signed a scholarship offer to attend San Diego State University in San Diego California. San Diego State University is a member of the Pac 10 conference which is one of the toughest soccer conferences in the country. The Aztecs are led by Coach Lev Kirshner who led the 2006 Aztecs to their second consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament; a feat SDSU hadn't done since the 1988 and 1989 seasons. Although the Aztecs would fall to eventual NCAA champion UC Santa Barbara. Coach Kirshner said "Jordan has every physical tool to compete at the Pac-10 level. His competitive nature and versatility makes us believe that Jordan can make an immediate impact on our program. Our coaching staff is excited to bring in this type of player and will expect good things, sooner rather than later." Jordan Phillips said "I was recruited by several Division I Soccer Teams from the Pac-10, the Big West and the West Coast Conferences. I attended a Soccer ID Camp at San Diego State University. Once I met Coaches Lev Kirshner and Matt Hall, I knew I wanted to be an AZTEC Soccer Player. I have been treated like family by SDSU, the coaches and the players." The experience I received from playing on the Texas Rush AHFC AS Monaco Academy Team coached by Scott Dean and Don Cameron has better prepared me to play soccer at the next level." U-18 Nike players become student-athletes at the next level
The following U-18 Nike soccer players at the Texas Rush soccer club will become soccer student-athletes at the collegiate level. Brianna Simmons (College Park HS): University of Mobile/Mobile, AL. (Gulf Coast Athletic Conference) "We are not sure where Brianna will play right now, but I'd like her to step in and bring a presence in goal so we can move 2008 All-American Anna Maddox out to the field," Person said. "She can also be an impactful player in the central midfield as she sees the field very well." "I'm very excited about attending the University of Mobile and being a part of their great program. Coach Person and the team made me feel very welcome. I don't think I could have picked a better school. I will miss Rush soccer and the Rush Staff and am thankful for their commitment to my success. "Brianna Simmons Korey Schroeder (Victoria Memorial HS): West Texas A&M University/Canyon, TX (Lonestar Conference). In 2008, Schroeder was selected to the all-district first team and was her team's defensive most valuable player as well as her team's captain at Victoria Memorial HS. Heather Nosky (Clear Brook HS): Louisiana State University-Shreveport/Shreveport, LA (Gulf Coast Conference). Kate DeShetler (The Woodlands HS): Liberty University/Lynchberg, VA (Big South Conference) Jade & Jazlyn Payne (Victoria Memorial HS): University of Mobile/Mobile, AL (Gulf Coast Athletic Conference). "The twins played on the Texas Rush with Brianna and bring more athletic presence to our club," Person said. "Jazlyn comes in as a defender, while Jade is a forward. Both bring tremendous work ethic and are extremely coachable" "These players have worked tremendously hard in the last year and throughout their careers and they thoroughly deserve the opportunity to become a student-athlete at the next level. They will become successful within the collegiate ranks due to their commitment to excellence they have shown in their training and game day performances. The club is extremely proud of their achievements and we wish them all the success in their collegiate careers." - Stuart Fitzsimons, Director of Coaching - Girls. "Collegiate recruiting is all about the individual and what he/she wants to put into the whole process to be recruited. The individual has to be able to sell themselves, work tremendously hard in their research behind the scenes to find the correct fit for their academic and athletic pursuits. Congratulations go out to all these ladies for getting through the process and finding an institution that fits their needs." - Simon Boddison, Director of the College Advisory Program.
