U17 Florida Boys Win Disney Showcase

Competing against the nations top teams in the Showcase bracket, the U17 Florida Rush Nike team reached one of their season goals by winning the prestigious Disney Soccer Showcase tournament this past week.

After wins against Grand Rapids CREW and Cleveland FC in group play, Florida Rush finished as group winners and faced a very tough Javanon FC in the final match for the championship. Showing incredible resolve and character to keep battling, this game went into overtime and was finally decided by kicks from the Penalty Mark when Rush goalkeeper Juanes Fajardo stopped Javanon’s 5th shot.

“I’m very proud of the way the boys played throughout this tournament. Winning the Disney Showcase is an excellent way for our team to finish out the year and well deserved,” Coach Nate Omodt said. “This 1st place finish in the Disney Showcase

combined with a 2nd place finish in Region 3 Premier League this fall are evidence that this team is ready and can compete at the National Level.”
