In game one of the Rush Women’s third campaign in the USL W-League (the nations top Women's league after the folding of the WPS on Friday), an early goal by Danica Evans was enough to hold off the power house from Vancouver. The Rush created several chances in the first 10 minutes but it was the 30 yard rocket from Evans (front row center) that was clearly the best of the lot. Rush outshot the Whitecaps 15-13 in a hotly contested match that saw Rush hold the better of the play in half one but the second half saw a wide open battle with end to end action. Assistant coach Cameron Bushey stated, “for the team being together for such a short period prior to this first match, some of the soccer was impressive and when it wasn’t, the fight and spirit certainly was.” Goalkeeper Dayle Colpitts picked up the shutout in her first game with the Rush. The Rush Women remain in Canada and travel today to Victoria, BC to take on their other Canadian divisional rival, the Victoria Highlanders. Kick off is set for 1pm (mountain) on Sunday.
