The 2012 U12 Rush Festival has come to a close here in Virginia Beach today. In the featured games of the morning, the Texas Rush walked away with a clean sweep as the Texas Boys jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Colorado and held off a late push to win 4-2.
In the girls game, again the Texas girls jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. A missed penalty kick from Michigan was transitioned in three passes up the field for a Texas goal to take a 2-0 lead and kill the momentum for the Michigan squad. A set piece goal in the second half gave Michigan some life but the Texas defense allowed little after that point despite Michigan controlling the play of the game.
At closing ceremonies, the 'Fire in the Gut Award' was presented to Chloe Galler of New Mexico Rush (the lone member from that club to make the long trek east) and to Carson Knox of Texas Rush who was admitted to a local hospital at the start of the week and was not able to play throughout the Fest. Knoxy wanted to share a video with everyone at Rush Fest. The video is below:
The 'Spirit Award' for the week was hotly contested and there are no doubt some dissapointed Virginians as Texas Rush walked away with the victory for the spirit and enthusiasm they had for the duration of the event!
For the fifth year in a row the U12 Festival was an overwhelming hit with players, parents and coaches alike. Now the staff will prepare for the U14 Festival that begins Saturday evening.
