MD Rush Montgomery Adds Top Team

09.10.13 - MD Rush CoyotesMaryland Rush Montgomery’s girls line up just got a lot stronger – with the addition of one of the nation’s elite U16 girls teams, the Coyotes. These girls, coached by Alex Gould and Kevin Layton since 2007, have been a dominant force on the national scene, having won the USYS National Championship in 2012, as well as National League Champions and Region 1 Champions in 2013.

Formerly with Montgomery Soccer Club (MSC), the Coyotes joined the Rush to provide the girls with greater training opportunities, more exposure to college coaches, and an unparalleled club network across the country.

Their list of accomplishments is long: They’ve won the Maryland State Cup for three years in a row; 12 of their players are on the Maryland ODP team, and four are in the Region 1 ODP pool. In fact, two of the players were among the Best 11 team in 2012 and 2013 for the USYS National Championship; and boasted the Golden Glove winner and Golden Ball winner at the 2012 USYS National Championships.

“We’re thrilled to bring a team of this stature into our club, “said Kennedy Torres, president of Maryland Rush Montgomery (MRM.) “Clearly the Rush in Maryland has become among the most respected clubs in the state, and the addition of the Coyotes will help accelerate our growth, both in size and reputation.”

Maryland Rush Montgomery was formed in 2012, through the acquisition of Seneca Sports Association, and is closely affiliated with Maryland Rush, while operating with a separate board of directors. In addition to coaching the Coyotes, Gould and Layton will develop the club’s U8 girls program.
