Betsy Brandon, Rebecca Rasmussen, Jordan DiBiasi (at right), and Danica Evans Get Called Up
On a cold February Denver day, Rebecca Rasmussen, part of the Rush U17 ECNL team, packed her bags with soccer gear and grabbed her backpack filled with homework. She’s done this drill before. She boarded a plane for the Costa Rica ODP tournament as part of the Region IV team. Playing under Jerry Smith, University of Santa Clara Women's Soccer Coach, the team did well and Rebecca enjoyed the distinction of being named her team's MVP in three of the four matches by the opposing Costa Rican coaches. She also had the honor of being named one of the three co-captains of the Region IV team. Rebecca said, “The Costa Rica tournament was one of my favorite ODP experiences, except for one crazy incident.” Evidently, in a brazen, broad daylight heist, a local monkey swiped a bag of food from her backpack, scattering her clothes in the process.
Now Rebecca (at right in Costa Rica) is packing up her soccer gear and backpack again as she and three other Rush stars head west. On April 1, The U.S. Soccer Women’s technical Director April Heinrichs called up 24 players, including Rush’s Rebecca Rasmussen, Betsy Brandon, Jordan DiBiasi, and Danica Evans to the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA for the US Women’s National Team U18 camp from April 20-27.
Returning to a national team camp after a year's hiatus, Becca attributes her call back to National Team camp to her play at the Costa Rica tournament. Rebecca, Betsy, Jordan and Danica all look forward to continuing to make a Rush impact - because you never know what can happen when you pack your soccer gear and backpack for a tournament.
