Texas Rush Players Star in CONCACAF Semis

11.07.13 - CONCACAFTexas Rush players Briana Woodall and Emily Alvarado eached played a crucial role for the U17 Mexican National Team in their CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Semi-final vs the United States on Thursday in Jamaica.

Woodall, a member of the U15 Texas Rush ECNL team (#8 below), opened the scoring in the 5th minute, scoring the first goal against the USA this tournament. The US team would answer back in the 27th and the game would end regulation at 1-1. CONCACAF games go straight to penalty kicks where Alvarado (#1) was the star. With Mexico leading and the US facing a 'do or die' kick to stay in the match, Alvarado stopped the shot of the US shooter and gave Mexico the penalty shootout win! Mexico will advance to the CONCACAF Final and have automatically qualifyied for the 2014 U17 Women's World Cup next summer in Costa Rica.

10.28.13 - Mexico National TeamThe loss for the Americans will keep them out of the 2014 U17 Women's World (where they are the defending champions) as only two teams from CONCACAF qualify for the U17 Women's World Cup.

Colorado Rush's Civana Kuhlmann did not see the field for the US in the semi-final but became the youngest American goalscorer (14) at a major U17 tournament when she scored against Guatemala.

Congratulations to Briana and Emily and good luck in the finals on Saturday!
