06.09.12 - CardenasTexas Rush Soccer Club is very pleased to announce that former Texas Rush player Mitchell Cardenas has been invited to train with Sporting Kansas City from June 7-17, 2012.

College Profile:

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Mitchell Cardenas of Campbell University has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Atlantic Region third team.  The junior midfielder has also been selected to the all-state team by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA).

A product of Mexico City, Mexico, Cardenas was also named to the 2011 Big South all-conference first team and all-tournament unit last month.

Cardenas finished ninth among league scoring leaders with 18 points on six goals and six assists.  A former All-Greater Houston selection at College Park (Texas) High School, Cardenas scored five of his goals and assisted on two others in 9 regular season games against league competition.

"I am thrilled and honored that Mitchell has been recognized by the NSCAA on the all-region team and on the all-state team," said Campbell head coach Steve Armas.  "Not only are these awards a reflection of his excellent performance this season, but also of the support of his teammates. I am proud of Mitchell's accomplishments over the years and he has been an integral part of our successes at Campbell. It is a privilege to coach a player with Mitchell's abilities, and it has been an even greater pleasure to watch him grow and mature into the player he has become."

Cardenas scored twice and assisted on CU's other goal in a 3-1 victory over Liberty on Oct. 25.  Four days later, Cardenas scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-2 triumph over VMI.  As a result, Cardenas was named Big South attacking player of the week for Oct. 25-31 and gained national team of the week honors from CollegeSoccerNews.com.

He established career highs for games started (20), minutes played (1730), goals (6) and points (18).  Cardenas was also named the offensive MVP and to the all-tournament team at the UNCW Adidas Classic in September when he had a hand in three of CU's four goals scored as the Camels defeated Wofford (1-0) and Hartford (3-2) in the event.

He also provided the game-winning assist in Campbell's 1-0 overtime triumph over North Carolina State on Oct. 4.  The Fighting Camels finished the 2011 season at 9-9-2 overall, 5-4-0 (third place) in the Big South.

Over his 57-match career, Cardenas has accounted for 48 points on 14 goals and 20 assists.  He is just two shy of becoming the 30th player in Campbell's 49-year men's soccer history to reach the 50-career point level.

He was one of nine Big South Conference players selected to the All-South Atlantic Region teams and the first Camel to gain all-region honors since Vince Petrasso accomplished the feat in 2009.

Cardenas was a first-team Atlantic Sun Conference choice in 2010 after earning A-Sun second-team and all-freshman honors in 2009.

He scored twice and assisted on CU's other goal in a 3-1 victory over Liberty on Oct. 25.  Four days later, Cardenas scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-2 triumph over VMI.  As a result, Cardenas was named Big South attacking player of the week for Oct. 25-31 and gained national team of the week honors from CollegeSoccerNews.com.
