Idaho Rush Boys Win Surf Cup
U18 Idaho Rush boys win prestigious Surf College Cup
The boys U18 Nike team rode a weekend of stiffling defense to the final of the prestigious Surf College Cup in La Jolla, Calif., over the Thanksgiving weekend, where they beat Tustin United (Cal-South) 2-0.
The shutout was the third in five games for Idaho Rush, who gave up just two goals all weekend. On Friday, Rush started the tournament with a 2-1 win over Wolfpack Soccer Club (Cal-South) before dropping the next match 1-0 to So Cal Brigade (Cal-South). A 2-0 win on Saturday over Futeca Camp Elite (Guatemala) was enough to claim second place in their group, which earned them a spot in the semifinals.
Rush rolled through the semifinals Sunday morning with a 4-0 shutout of Los Angeles FC (Cal-South) before facing Tustin in the finals.
The Surf College Cup is one of the top youth soccer tournaments in the country. This year's event drew 140 boys and girls teams in the U16 through U18 age groups from 16 states and three countries. The teams are heavily scouted by college coaches from across the country.
