Bringing Hope to Nicaragua

During this last Spring Break, TCU (Texas Christian University) student Megan Williams has travelled on a service trip to El Tepeyac, Nicaragua. The R.E.A.C.H Program decided to actively collaborate with the Texan organization by donating soccer equipment for the kids in El Tepeyac. Megan wanted to thank the Rush Family for the donations and share her story with all of us:

03.26.14 - NICARAGUA TRIP 1
"I have had the opportunity to travel to a small community called El Tepeyac in Granada, Nicaragua the past few years for Spring break with a group of students from TCU. Every year, the Nicaraguans challenge us, American to many soccer matches throughout the week and it is always so much fun to play a sport they enjoy so much and brings the community together. However, when they play, at least more than half of the players are barefoot because they do not have soccer cleats or shoes to play in for that matter. This past spring break, I brought down the soccer equipment that was donated by Rush Soccer Club to the community to give to the young adults and youth. Not only did the supplies offer equipment for them to use when they play soccer, but it brought hope in knowing that they are cared for and acknowledged. Soccer is a way that the community comes together and through the donations, more people can participate and the youth can now be engaged too. It offers a healthier and positive outlet for the community to socialize and be together as one. A boy named Milton, is one of the consistent players on the team and he is also one who normally plays barefoot because he did not own a pair of cleats. He was beyond excited when he received his cleats that fit perfectly and he repeatedly thanked me the rest of the evening. The following day, we had a soccer match against the Nicaraguans and the Americans and Milton showed up carrying his small drawstring bag with his new cleats. He put them on and he was ready to play. The night before I left, he gave me a hug goodbye and said, “Thank you so much for the cleats. They are such a blessing and they fit perfect. You are so special.” The donations have truly made a strong impact on this community as a whole and will continue as the members organize and bring the community together through the friendly game of soccer."

The R.E.A.C.H. Program is committed to keep assisting children in need throughout the world thanks to the generous donations from all our members.
