Kansas Rush Boys Capture Clubs First Cup
The U16 boys capped off an amazing weekend after knocking off TOCA, KCFC and EFC and being crowned State Cup Champions Sunday evening at the Overland Park soccer complex. In the final, Rush took an early 1-0 lead but EFC answered with what would be the only goal conceded during the tournament as the two teams ended regulation time knotted up 1-1. It took two extra 15 minute periods to settle things and the boys did it in dramatic fashion finding the back of the net in the final minute avoiding a penalty shootout. A large contingent of Rush fans were on hand and a jubilant roar was heard around the complex when the final whistle rewarded the boys for their last minute heroics. "The boys have worked so hard and really deserve this. I'm very happy for them and proud of what they accomplished," said coach Daouda Kante.
By winning the Kansas State Cup Tournament the boys have earned the opportunity to compete in the US Youth Soccer Region 2 tournament held June 22 through June 27 in Saginaw Michigan. Good luck boys!
The win brings the total number of Rush State Cup champs to 28 around the nation!
