Missouri Rush’s Emily B. helps frontline fighters with hand-sewn masks

Emily B., a goalkeeper for the Missouri Rush Soccer Club 2005 Fierte team coached by Marc Crozier, has used her time at home during the COVID-19 pandemic to give back to the community - specifically the medical workers and essential personnel on the frontlines of the crisis.

Emily began sewing face masks for those that work some of the most dangerous jobs.

"I was hearing all the news about people that truly need masks but don’t have them, and it made me really sad,” Emily said. “I started thinking: ‘I know how to sew, so why not make some masks to see if people could use them."

After spending time researching the need and requirements for these masks, Emily decided to get to work.

"I looked up different designs and found one that worked for the material that I had,” Emily said. “I made a few and my mom posted on Facebook, and a lot of people requested them -- so I just kept sewing and have made at least a hundred.

"I'm waiting for some more material to come in the mail and I will continue making more masks. I don’t charge anyone. I just welcome them to donate whatever they can. I will use those donations to make more."

Great work, Emily!
