Albany Rush Added to UWS East Conference

METUCHEN, NJ
- More expansion has come to the East Conference of United Women's Soccer (UWS) as the Albany Rush will join the steadily burgeoning lineup of teams. The Capital District team is the second new organization to be added to the UWS East in the past few weeks, alongside the New Jersey Teamsterz Football Club. The Albany, New York-based club has been in operation since 2016 as a region of New York Rush and contains a comprehensive youth program boasting over 80 teams and more than 1,000 players.

Albany Rush will now launch their first-ever adult women's program. The team's mission is to enhance the soccer experience of players and coaches in upstate New York. The club strives to develop players who can compete at the highest level of soccer throughout the world. Tryouts for the Albany Rush will be held in May 2021 with times and dates to be confirmed.

"We are excited to add an Albany team to the East Conference as it's a perfect geographical fit for UWS," said UWS Commissioner Joe Ferrara. Jr. "The ownership group has a proven track record in both professional and amateur soccer in the United States and will be a positive addition to our league."

Brian Gordon will serve as the inaugural Head Coach of the Albany Rush. The Erskine, Scotland native has previously worked in the college game as Assistant Women's Coach with the University at Albany and Head Women’s Coach at his alma mater Hartwick College. Gordon led Hartwick to double digit wins his final two years, the first time in program history since the 1991-92 seasons. He has earned a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Advanced National Diploma.

"We are very excited to add to the landscape of women's soccer in the Albany area," said Gordon. "There are a lot of quality players in the area who are eager to play at a high level during the summer. I am excited that we are able to accommodate their needs while expanding what Albany Rush has to offer."

Albany Rush is associated with Northeast Rush which operates underneath the umbrella of Rush Soccer: an international sports organization focused on the development of soccer players. Northeast Rush is composed of clubs based in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Connecticut Shoreline and New York. With over 150 teams and 2,000 players, Northeast Rush is one of the largest Rush groups within the organization.

"We are very excited about having our Albany Rush team participate in UWS," said Northeast Rush President Danielle Athanasiadis. "We look forward to bringing this high level of women's soccer to the Rush Family and Albany community this summer."

"We are always looking for ways to provide additional pathways for all players in the Albany area," said Northeast Rush CEO Craig Thomas. "Offering a women's team competing at such a high level is fantastic and something we are incredibly proud of. As we continue to be leaders in youth soccer, we can now add adult soccer to our repertoire."
