Rush alumni stories matter because they show players, parents, and coaches what is possible when development, opportunity, and the right environment come together. That is exactly why Felix Gomez’s recent moment stood out. Gomez, now with LAFC2, helped Mexico’s U16 National Team earn a 3-2 comeback win over Argentina at the Vertex Cup in Miami, with Mexico’s official match report noting that he scored the late winner to complete the comeback. The Vertex Cup schedule featured Mexico, Argentina, England, and the United States in a high-level U16 international environment.
For Rush Soccer, this is bigger than one result. It is another example of what can happen when a player keeps taking the next step. LAFC2 announced in March that it had signed Gomez from the LAFC Academy. In that same announcement, LAFC said Gomez joined its academy at age 12 and most recently featured for the club’s U16 academy team. He is still only 15, which makes his current stage even more impressive.
That progress should feel familiar to anyone who understands the Rush pathway. Rush’s official player pathway describes a clear roadmap from local club soccer to the global stage, built to take dedicated athletes from their first touch to college and the pros. Rush also states that its system has produced 87 professional players and highlights a long list of professional alumni, including names such as Lindsey Heaps, Christian Pulisic, Obed Vargas, Mark McKenzie, and Cole Bassett.
What makes the Rush pathway special is that it is not built around one single jump. It is built around layers of development. Rush says local clubs are the foundation, while Rush Select helps identify, develop, and showcase top talent across Rush Nation. The organization describes Rush Select as a direct pathway from club soccer to collegiate opportunity, with regional and national events designed to challenge players, raise standards, and open doors.

Felix Gomez fits that bigger story. California Rush previously highlighted him as a CA Rush alumnus during his rise with the LAFC Academy, and earlier this year U.S. Soccer also named him to a U16 Futures Camp roster while he was with LAFC. Now, after his move to LAFC2 and his impact with Mexico’s U16 side at the Vertex Cup, his journey continues to show what real development looks like when talent meets the right pathway.
This is the part that matters most to our Rush families and coaches. Pathways are not just graphics on a page. They are real. They are built through daily work, coaching, competition, patience, and the willingness to keep growing. Every player’s road will look a little different, but the goal stays the same: create an environment where players can be identified, pushed, supported, and prepared for whatever comes next.
Felix’s recent performance is exciting because it reflects all of that. A Rush alumnus competing at a high level, now part of LAFC2, stepping onto an international stage and delivering in a major moment. That is the kind of story that inspires younger players across Rush Nation. It shows that the pathway is not just about getting noticed. It is about being ready when the moment comes.
At Rush Soccer, we are proud of Felix Gomez and everything this moment represents. We celebrate the result, but we also celebrate the process behind it. That is what Rush has always believed in. Develop the player. Support the person. Keep raising the level. Then watch what can happen.
